Buddha's Birthday Week 2026
The Buddha's Birthday Week, with the organization of the Grand Buddha's Birthday Celebration throughout the country, not only meets the needs of religious and spiritual life but also further affirms the Party and State's policy of guaranteeing freedom of religion.
During the Buddha's Birthday week (from May 24th to May 31st, or April 8th to 15th in the lunar calendar), all temples and monastic institutions nationwide, as well as Buddhist households, organized many solemn and meaningful Buddhist activities such as: chanting scriptures, Buddha processions, bathing the infant Buddha Shakyamuni, releasing animals, floating lanterns on rivers and lakes; flower float parades on the streets, cultural performances, Buddhist lectures; establishing Lumbini Gardens, hanging flags and banners to celebrate Buddha's Birthday.
This is also an opportunity for devout Buddhists to sincerely honor the Three Jewels: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha; to practice vegetarianism, observe the Five Precepts, do good deeds, and spread the spirit of love in the community.
At the same time, the Vietnam Buddhist Church and its monastic institutions, in coordination with local authorities at all levels and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, carried out many social welfare activities such as: laying wreaths to commemorate heroic martyrs at cemeteries and war memorials; visiting and giving gifts to families who have rendered meritorious service to the country, wounded soldiers, families of martyrs, facilities for disabled and orphaned children, and nursing homes; organizing cultural and artistic programs and exhibitions to celebrate...
These activities profoundly reflect the spirit of gratitude, reciprocity, and the tradition of engaging with the world and accompanying the nation, which is characteristic of Vietnamese Buddhism.
At the Vesak celebrations held in various localities, the message of the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha - Venerable Thich Tri Quang - was read aloud, affirming that the Vesak celebration in the Buddhist year 2570 (Gregorian year 2026) is a special event, not only commemorating the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, but also an opportunity for every Buddhist to reflect and better understand the profound lessons from the life of the Buddha and his practical teachings; and at the same time, hoping that the venerable monks, nuns, and lay Buddhist members of the Sangha will continue to dedicate themselves to service in mindfulness and peace, contributing to the solemnity of the Sangha and promoting the beautiful national traditions of Vietnamese Buddhism.
The solemn organization of the Buddha's Birthday celebration throughout the country not only meets the legitimate religious needs of the people but also vividly affirms the consistent policy of the Party and State on guaranteeing freedom of belief and religion.
At the same time, this also demonstrates the connection and harmony between religions within the national unity, contributing to the spread of humanistic values, compassion, and charity, guiding people towards truth and beauty, for the goal of building a prosperous country and a people who are well-off and happy.
