Domestic coffee prices on November 22, 2024

On the morning of November 22nd, at 4:30 AM, the global coffee market showed mixed trends. On the London Robusta exchange, after a strong surge, prices reversed and declined, while Arabica prices in New York and Brazil continued their upward trend.

According to statistics from the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), in the first 15 days of November, Vietnam's coffee exports reached only 20,933 tons, equivalent to $121.8 million, a decrease of 44.8% in volume but an increase of 1.8% in value compared to the same period last year. This indicates that the supply from the new harvest has not yet entered the market in the same quantity as in previous years.

Cumulatively from the beginning of the year to November 15th, Vietnam exported 1.17 million tons of coffee, earning $4.7 billion, a decrease of 13.5% in volume but an increase of 38.1% in value compared to the same period last year. Of this, robusta accounted for 964,610 tons, worth $3.48 billion; arabica accounted for 49,802 tons, worth over $202.4 million; and decaffeinated green coffee beans totaled 31,867 tons, worth $160.6 million.

Currently, the Central Highlands provinces of Vietnam are in the peak coffee harvest season, and the high prices have encouraged people to actively care for their crops and protect against theft.

According to assessments, due to the influence of many factors, including dry weather, there will be very little Robusta coffee available from both Vietnam and Brazil in the coming period. This will increase the demand for Arabica coffee worldwide and support prices.

According to consulting firm Safras & Mercado, Brazilian coffee farmers have sold approximately 70% of their estimated production of around 66.04 million bags in the current coffee season. This sales rate is higher than the five-year average of 67%. Local dealers in Brazil, the world's leading Arabica producer, say the market is now focused on next year's crop and remains concerned about the drought earlier this year.

According to experts, world coffee prices are being affected by many complex factors, including both natural and policy factors. In the near future, coffee prices may continue to fluctuate sharply, and farmers, businesses, and consumers need to be prepared for these changes.
