Domestic coffee prices on November 22, 2024

On the morning of November 22, updated at 4:30 a.m., the world coffee market had mixed increases and decreases. On the London Robusta exchange, after a strong increase, it turned to decrease, while on the New York and Brazilian Arabica exchange, it continued to increase.

According to statistics from the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), in the first 15 days of November, Vietnam's coffee exports reached only 20,933 tons, equivalent to a turnover of 121.8 million USD, down 44.8% in volume but up 1.8% in value compared to the same period last year. This shows that the supply from the new harvest has not been brought to the market as much as in previous years.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year to November 15, Vietnam exported 1.17 million tons of coffee with a turnover of 4.7 billion USD, down 13.5% in volume but up 38.1% in value compared to the same period last year. Of which, robusta reached 964,610 tons, turnover of 3.48 billion USD; arabica reached 49,802 tons, turnover of over 202.4 million USD; and decaffeinated coffee beans were 31,867 tons, turnover of 160.6 million USD.

Currently, the Central Highlands provinces of Vietnam are in the main coffee harvest season, and high prices have encouraged people to actively care for and protect the crop from theft.

According to the assessment, due to the influence of many factors, including dry weather, there will be very little Robusta coffee from both Vietnam and Brazil in the coming time. Therefore, the demand for Arabica coffee in the world will increase and prices will be supported.

Brazilian coffee farmers have sold about 70 percent of their estimated 66.04 million bags of coffee in the current coffee year, according to consultancy Safras & Mercado. The current sales rate is higher than the average of 67 percent over the past five years. Local dealers in Brazil, the world’s top Arabica producer, said the market is focused on next year’s crop and remains concerned about the drought earlier this year.

According to experts, world coffee prices are affected by many complex factors, including natural and policy factors. In the near future, coffee prices may continue to fluctuate strongly and farmers, businesses and consumers need to be prepared for these changes.
