Chicken meat prices drop - Vinh Long Online

(VLO) According to some chicken farmers, after Tet (Lunar New Year), the price of broiler chickens has continuously decreased, at times falling to 48,000-49,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price at the farm gate fluctuates between 60,000-70,000 VND/kg, causing many farmers to worry. The main reason is the abundant supply, with chickens from large-scale farms flooding the market, creating pressure on consumption.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Oanh, Director of KOT Western Clean Chicken Cooperative (Trung Hiep commune, Vung Liem district), said: Currently, the cooperative has about 13,000-14,000 commercial chickens. While the price of chicken reached 90,000 VND/kg during Tet, it has dropped by nearly 50% in the past month, but sales are slow, and traders only choose to buy hens.

Meanwhile, the selling price of chicken needs to reach 75,000 VND/kg or higher for farmers to make a profit, meaning the cooperative is currently incurring a loss of approximately 5,000-10,000 VND per kilogram of chicken meat ready for slaughter.
