Rice prices increase, farmers are excited

This year's winter-spring rice crop (2023), with many fluctuations in the rice market, rice prices reaching record highs, Tuy Phong farmers are very excited because of good prices and a good harvest. After harvesting, on average, rice growers earn a profit of about 30 million VND/ha.

In the fields, the rice has ripened. In recent days, farmers in the district have begun harvesting the winter-spring rice crop in the joy of a good harvest, with rice prices reaching a record high. The harvest atmosphere is bustling and busy. Rice purchasing activities are taking place vigorously in many localities. In the fields, combine harvesters are working at full capacity; rice trucks and porters are also working continuously from early morning to night.

In the 2023 crop, Tuy Phong sowed more than 2,127 hectares. The main rice varieties sown are ML48 and Dai Thom 8. So far, farmers have harvested 1/3 of the area, with an average yield of 6 tons/hectare. Before the harvest, rice prices began to increase, many fields had not yet reached harvest time, but cooperatives and traders had signed purchase contracts with field owners and members at suitable prices.

Currently, the price of fresh ML48 rice, purchased by traders at the field, is 8,500 VND/kg, dry rice is 9,500 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice is 9,600 VND/kg for dry rice, fresh rice is 8,500 VND/kg... compared to the recent summer-autumn crop, the selling price is 1,000 VND/kg higher. Besides the positive signals from the rice market, this year, farmers producing the crop seem to have been given more motivation when the prices of many types of fertilizers have stabilized, production costs have decreased, and farmers have higher profits.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thong, a rice farmer in group 6, Lien Huong town, said: "This crop, fertilizer prices are stable, rice has few pests and diseases, so production costs are also lower than previous rice crops, rice is sold at a high price, farmers are very excited."

Ms. Le Thi Duong - Lien Huong, who has just finished harvesting 5 sao of ML48 rice, happily shared: "This crop has a high yield and price, with a profit of about more than 10 million VND for 5 sao of newly harvested rice."

With this good news, farmers hope that in the winter-spring crop, rice prices will continue to be stable so that they can feel secure in production.
