Rice prices rise, farmers are delighted.

This year's rice crop (2023) saw significant fluctuations in the rice market, with record-high rice prices. Farmers in Tuy Phong were very pleased with the high prices and abundant harvest. After harvesting, the average profit for rice growers was approximately 30 million VND per hectare.

In the fields, the rice has ripened to a golden yellow. Over the past few days, farmers in the district have begun harvesting the rice crop with joy at the bountiful harvest and record-high rice prices. The harvesting atmosphere is bustling and lively. Rice purchasing activities are taking place vigorously in many localities. In the fields, combine harvesters are working at full capacity; trucks carrying rice and laborers are working continuously from early morning until night.

In the 2023 crop season, Tuy Phong district sowed over 2,127 hectares of rice. The main rice varieties sown were ML48 and Dai Thom 8. To date, farmers have harvested one-third of the area, with an average yield of 6 tons/ha. Before the harvest, rice prices began to rise, and in many fields not yet ready for harvest, cooperatives and traders had already signed contracts with farmers and cooperative members at suitable prices.

Currently, the price of fresh ML48 paddy rice, purchased by traders at the field, is 8,500 VND/kg, and dried paddy rice is 9,500 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 paddy rice is priced at 9,600 VND/kg for dried paddy and 8,500 VND/kg for fresh paddy rice… Compared to the recent summer-autumn crop, the selling price is 1,000 VND higher per kg. Besides the positive signs from the rice market, this year farmers are further motivated by the stable prices of many fertilizers, reduced production costs, and higher profits.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thong, a rice farmer from Team 6, Lien Huong town, said: "This season, fertilizer prices are stable, and there are fewer pests and diseases, so production costs are lower compared to previous rice seasons. The rice also sells at a high price, and farmers are very happy."

Ms. Le Thi Duong from Lien Huong, who has just finished harvesting 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of ML48 rice, happily shared: "This season, the rice harvest was high, the price was good, and I made a profit of over 10 million VND for the 5 sao of newly harvested rice."

With this positive sign, farmers hope that rice prices will remain stable during the winter-spring season, allowing them to produce with peace of mind.
