According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, as of the afternoon of August 29th, airfares for airlines during the National Day holiday have increased by approximately 20% compared to a week prior and by 40% compared to the average during off-peak periods.
The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has just released a report on the booking situation and airfare at various stages during the National Day holiday (September 2nd).
According to According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, from August 30th to September 3rd, domestic airlines operated a total of 4,257 flights, averaging 840 flights per day, a 3% increase compared to the week before the holiday and a 3.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
The average number of domestic flights was 600 per day, a 5% increase compared to the week before the holiday and a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year. International flights reached 241 per day, a 2% decrease compared to the week before the holiday and a 5.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
The routes connecting the three major cities of Hanoi , Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City are the most frequently operated by airlines, averaging 241 flights per day, an 8% increase compared to the week before the holiday and a 14.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
Domestic tourist flights to destinations such as Vinh, Binh Dinh, Da Lat, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc averaged 171 flights per day, a 2% increase compared to the week before the holiday.
The increased number of flights during the holiday period allowed airlines to add more seats to the market. Accordingly, the total number of seats offered on routes from August 30th to September 3rd was over 885,000, averaging 178,000 seats per day, a 3.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

Notably, a survey by the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority on airfare data from airlines on August 29th showed that airfares during the National Day holiday on various routes increased by approximately 20% compared to a week prior and by 40% compared to the average during the previous off-peak period.
For example, on August 31st, airfares on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route for Vietnam Airlines ranged from 2.3-3.5 million VND/one-way (including meals), an increase of 23%-28%; Vietjet Air had prices ranging from 1.5-2.4 million VND/one-way, an increase of 25%; Bamboo Airways had prices from 1.7-2.5 million VND/one-way, an increase of 24%; and Vietravel Airlines had prices around 1.7 million VND/one-way, an increase of 19% compared to the off-peak period.
For the Hanoi - Da Nang route, Vietnam Airlines offers fares of approximately 2.5 million VND/one-way, an increase of 40%; Vietjet offers fares of approximately 2.4 million VND/one-way, an increase of 60%; and Bamboo Airways offers fares of 2.2 million VND/one-way, an increase of 42%.
For the Hanoi - Nha Trang route, Vietnam Airlines offers fares of approximately 2.5-3.2 million VND/one-way, similar to the previous period; Vietjet Air offers fares of 2.6-3.5 million VND/one-way, an increase of about 33%; and Bamboo Airways fares are around 3.2 million VND/one-way, an increase of 14%.
On some other domestic tourist routes, airfares have also increased compared to before, such as the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route, which ranges from 2.5 to 4 million VND/one-way, an increase of over 60%; the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route costs about 2.4 million VND/one-way, an increase of 25%.
"This is why the authorities always advise passengers to plan their travel and book tickets early to have more opportunities to choose suitable fares," the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority shared.
According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, as of August 29th, the average booking rate on domestic routes during the National Day holiday period reached over 65%. A "head-to-head imbalance" has formed and is evident in the bookings on domestic routes.
For flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities, booking rates are high at the beginning of the holiday period and lower towards the end of the holiday.
With the last day of the holiday (September 3rd), booking rates were lower, with only a few routes showing high rates above 60%, such as: Hanoi - Da Lat, Hanoi - Can Tho, Hanoi - Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City - Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City - Dong Hoi, and especially the Hanoi - Tuy Hoa route which reached a booking rate of 92.6%.
