The world's most prestigious carom billiards tournament is still held in Vietnam

Responding to a letter from the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF), this evening, President of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB), Mr. Farouk Barki (Egyptian), confirmed the 2024 World Championship and the General Assembly session. UMB 2024 will still take place as scheduled, this coming September.

The reason for the letter from VBSF and the answer from the head of UMB is because there was a previous document suspending athletes, coaches, referees, and officials of Vietnamese billiards, in pool and snooker content. Not allowed to attend events organized by the Asian Billiards & Snooker Federation (ACBS) within 6 months (from June 13, 6 - January 2024, 12).

Regarding the issue just mentioned, UMB president Farouk Barki said that ACBS's suspension order does not affect the World Championship and the 2024 UMB General Assembly session.

That means that the reigning world 3-cushion billiards champion Bao Phuong Vinh and the reigning world runner-up Tran Quyet Chien still have the right to defend the titles they currently hold at their home tournament in September. 9 to.

Meanwhile, the UMB General Assembly session is a meeting with the participation of leaders of carom billiards federations of countries and territories, as well as leaders of carom billiards federations at continental and world levels (corresponding to similar to the FIFA General Assembly session in football).

Previously, VBSF was worried that ACBS would report incidents of Vietnamese localities organizing tournaments outside the system of the World-level Billiards Federation, of which VBSF is a member.

VBSF was worried that if ACBS reported this to UMB, UMB would ban Vietnam from hosting the 2024 World Championship. Currently, this concern has been temporarily removed, after the statement of UMB president Farouk Barki tonight.
