Quenching the thirst of soldiers in border regions.

In the western border region of the province, the issue of clean water has been a long-standing concern, especially during the dry season.

With the construction of large-capacity rainwater tanks and a modern water treatment plant, an abundant supply of clean water has reached Company 2 and Company 5 (Regional Defense Command 3 – Ea Súp), contributing to improving the quality of life for officers and soldiers in the border region.

Inspecting the water supply system to combat drought for the companies in the border region.

Never before have the officers and soldiers of Company 2 eagerly awaited the arrival of the rainforest rains in the border region more than now. After each rainforest rain, they would quickly check the rainwater collection pits and storage tanks, closely monitoring the rising water level in each tank.

Lieutenant To Huu Sy, Political Officer of Company 2, said that in the past, during the dry season, the unit frequently lacked water for daily use. At times, the wells dried up, causing severe water shortages, and water trucks from the Provincial Military Command had to stay at the company for months at a time to help transport water from the center of Ea Sup commune. There were also times when the unit had to request water assistance from local residents.

Last May, the unit received investment from the 5th Military Region for a water supply project to combat drought, thus resolving the water shortage at Company 2. The project is an elaborate system, consisting of two collection pits and a reservoir. The collection pits are constructed of concrete, equipped with a trash filter and technical pipelines, and function to receive, regulate, and purify rainwater as it flows into the reservoir. Four large, semi-underground water reservoirs, each with a capacity of 450 and nearly 4 m high, are pumped and connected to the station, water tower, and centralized water intake points for the soldiers' convenient use and daily life.

The water purification plant contributes to ensuring a clean water supply for soldiers in border areas.

At Company 5, the drought-relief water project, consisting of a cluster of collection pits and three semi-underground storage tanks with a capacity of 350 m³, was also put into operation in 2025. After collecting a huge amount of water from the first rains of the season, the tanks are almost full, ready to meet the needs of the entire unit even during the most severe droughts.

It can be affirmed that the rainwater harvesting system is an effective and practical solution, ensuring long-term logistical support for training and combat readiness in challenging areas such as border regions.

Captain Pham Tuan, Commander of Company 5, shared: "Groundwater and stream water in the western border region of Dak Lak are heavily contaminated with limestone and contain many impurities. Along with rainwater storage tanks and a modern water purification plant, the investment in building a clean water source has provided clean water, contributing to improving the quality of life for officers and soldiers in the border region."
