To date, the province has 460,365 people participating in health insurance, achieving a coverage rate of 96% of the population. Compared to 2025, the number of participants has increased by 40,741 people. This result shows that the health insurance policy is increasingly receiving the consensus and support of the people, affirming the effectiveness of the propaganda and implementation work of the provincial Social Insurance sector and localities.

Elderly people in Sa De Phin village (Sin Ho commune) consider health insurance cards as an important "shield" protecting their health.
Beyond just coverage figures, the value of health insurance is clearly demonstrated in people's daily lives. Many cases of people suffering from serious illnesses requiring long-term treatment have received support from the Health Insurance Fund, significantly reducing the economic burden on their families. Therefore, the health insurance policy not only directly benefits participants but also contributes to achieving the goal of ensuring social security, preventing people from abandoning healthcare due to financial difficulties.
In Phong Tho commune, home to a large ethnic minority population, where transportation and access to healthcare services are still difficult in some areas, maintaining a high health insurance coverage rate is of particular importance. Currently, the commune has achieved a health insurance coverage rate of 99%. This is the result of the efforts of the local government, relevant agencies, and a change in the awareness of the people.

Social insurance officials in Phong Tho district are educating residents about the importance of health insurance cards.
Mr. Ly Minh Tuan from Ma Li Pho village (Phong Tho commune) shared: “Previously, I and the villagers didn't fully understand the benefits of health insurance, and some even thought we'd only buy it when we got sick. But through the dissemination of information by social insurance officials and the reality of going for medical check-ups and treatment, we clearly see that health insurance helps reduce many costs. Now, the villagers are being given free health insurance cards, so we are very happy. Thanks to the health insurance card, we can proactively go for regular check-ups.”
Along with expanding coverage, the provincial social insurance sector also focuses on improving service quality, creating maximum convenience for people in participating in and benefiting from policies. The application of information technology and digital transformation in management and handling administrative procedures has helped people save time and reduce paperwork when conducting transactions.

Thanks to health insurance cards, people in Nam Don village, Nam Hang commune, are able to visit the doctor more frequently.
Currently, health insurance participants can use images of their health insurance cards on the VssID and VNeID applications to access medical examinations and treatment instead of paper cards. These conveniences contribute to increased transparency and ease of use, while also demonstrating a strong shift in administrative reform within the social insurance sector.
Comrade Dinh Gia Tang - Director of the Provincial Social Insurance Agency, stated: Health insurance is a policy with profound humanitarian significance, helping people alleviate financial difficulties when they unfortunately fall ill. The health insurance coverage rate of 96% of the population is a very commendable achievement. However, to move towards the goal of universal health insurance, continued cooperation from all levels, sectors, and every citizen is needed in participating in and maintaining their health insurance cards continuously.
With the achievements made, and the joint efforts of the entire political system and the people, Lai Chau is gradually moving closer to the goal of universal health insurance, so that every citizen can receive better healthcare, contributing to building a safe, happy, and sustainable life.
