(TBKD) Anticipating that consumers will tighten their spending due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses have designed Tet gift baskets for the Year of the Ox 2021 that are more diverse in design, suitable, and practical.

With only a month left until Lunar New Year, in addition to essential goods readily available and with many promotions, the popular item that many people buy in the days leading up to Tet – Tet gift baskets – has started to become a hot commodity, with competition mainly focused on price and design.

Wide variety of designs, suitable for all budgets.

A survey of several supermarkets and stores in Hanoi revealed that many establishments have allocated a portion of their central area to display Tet gift baskets.

Accordingly, this year's Tet gift market still features elements such as: diverse designs, a wide variety of types, and options to suit the budgets of many different customer segments.

These are divided into three main groups: traditional Tet gift baskets with basic items such as cakes, candies, tea, jams, wine, beer, soft drinks, etc.; nutritional gift baskets for health care including milk, nuts, cereal powder; and fruit gift baskets including imported fruits such as kiwi, apples, grapes, pears, and domestic fruits such as tangerines, dragon fruit, longan, pomelo, etc.

According to businesses, this year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, consumers are tightening their spending, leading to significant changes in gift basket trends. While in previous years, customers' criteria for choosing Tet gifts were products with beautiful, unique designs and high practical value, this year there has been a considerable shift.

For example, large businesses and organizations will focus on essential needs, cutting or reducing costs and quantities per gift… while individual customers tend to buy nutritious health care gift baskets to give to relatives and friends.

Ms. Hong Anh, an employee of an online shopping site, said that gift baskets containing health-beneficial products that are suitable and practical for consumers are a popular gift trend this year. With prices ranging from 300,000 VND to 1 million VND, or even 3-4 million VND per gift box, her website can meet the needs and budgets of many different customer segments.

Ms. Le Thanh Huong, owner of Huong Sang grocery store (Dinh Cong), said that in previous years, the store received orders and prepared many Tet gift baskets for display. However, this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic causing consumers to tighten their spending, and the market offering many new and diverse designs and sales channels, traditional Tet gift baskets have been significantly affected.

Stimulate demand, increase discounts.

According to surveys, the prices of Tet gift baskets this year are quite diverse. Affordable baskets range from 200,000 to 500,000 VND, while high-end baskets cost from 700,000 VND to several million VND. Most Tet gift baskets are pre-designed and include product lists for customers to browse. Suppliers also cleverly incorporate themes into the gift baskets such as: baskets symbolizing wealth, prosperity, good fortune, and abundance…

According to Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Dung, Director of Operations at VinMart nationwide, for the 2021 Tet gift basket product line, VinMart is launching three groups of popular Tet gift baskets in the following price segments: VND 399,000, VND 499,000, and VND 699,000; five versions of Feng Shui gift baskets: Metal - Wood - Water - Fire - Earth, all priced at VND 899,000; and custom-ordered gift baskets at various price points.

Besides tightening spending due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the trend of online consumption is growing. To stimulate consumer demand, suppliers are offering promotions, discounts, or free home delivery.

Accordingly, to cater to the trend of online shopping, the VinMart supermarket system will develop home delivery services and diversify its sales channels: ordering via phone, mobile application, and VinMart website.

A representative from T-mart supermarket in Linh Dam said that since the beginning of this week, the number of customers buying Tet gift baskets has increased compared to the beginning of January. However, purchasing power will increase sharply in about two weeks and peak around the middle of the twelfth lunar month. The supermarket has introduced a 15% discount policy for companies that place early orders in large quantities.
