According to the report presented at the 4th session of the Lai Chau Provincial People's Council, in the first six months of 2026, the political security and social order in Lai Chau province were basically maintained.
However, behind that apparent peace lies an uncompromising struggle against increasingly sophisticated and complex forms of crime.
Harnessing the strength of the entire nation.
Lai Chau province recorded 61 cases related to crimes and violations of social order laws, a slight increase compared to the same period last year.
Criminal acts exploiting cyberspace and using high technology continue to emerge with many new methods and tactics.

Authorities have uncovered and dismantled an inter-provincial network involved in the illegal manufacture, sale, and storage of military weapons, arresting 33 individuals and seizing dozens of firearms along with nearly 40,000 rounds of ammunition.
A ring that forged seals and documents of agencies and organizations was also uncovered, with thousands of fake documents seized and illicit profits exceeding one billion VND.
In addition, economic and environmental crimes continue to be complex, with acts of trafficking in prohibited goods, violations of bidding regulations, investment and construction projects, harming wildlife, and destroying forests.
In this context, the province has paid special attention to leadership and guidance in crime prevention and control. A series of programs and plans on drug prevention and control, human trafficking prevention, smuggling prevention, commercial fraud prevention, and violations in the field of natural resources and minerals have been implemented synchronously from the provincial level to the grassroots.
Lai Chau province has effectively maintained 23 types of models in the nationwide movement to protect national security, expanding them to 164 models in many localities.
In addition, there are 956 grassroots security and order protection teams with nearly 2,900 members who are working day and night in their assigned areas, promptly detecting and resolving any incidents that arise.
The dissemination of legal information has also been reformed to be closer to the people and more practical. In addition to traditional methods, many localities have strengthened dissemination through social media and digital platforms, helping people raise awareness and be vigilant against new methods and tactics of crime.
In the first six months of the year, authorities organized 25 awareness campaigns with over 2,500 participants. Many self-governing models, mediation groups, and crime prevention clubs continued to be effective, contributing to resolving conflicts at the grassroots level and limiting the 발생 of crime.
Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions, the crime investigation and discovery rate reached over 91.8%; all very serious and especially serious cases were investigated and clarified.
Authorities also resolved 277 out of 316 crime reports and denunciations, achieving a rate of 87.65%, with no overdue or backlog cases, contributing to strengthening public trust in law enforcement agencies.
A tough battle
While crimes against property and those affecting life and health have been curbed, drug-related crimes remain a "hot spot" in Lai Chau's efforts to ensure security and order.
In the first six months of the year, authorities detected and arrested 345 cases involving 474 individuals related to drugs, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2025. Seized evidence included over 5.7 kg of heroin, various types of synthetic drugs, and hundreds of opium plants.
Many major cases have been successfully dismantled. In one case, up to 9 blocks of heroin weighing nearly 3 kg were seized. The suspects often operate in organized networks, with inter-provincial connections, taking advantage of border areas and rugged terrain to transport and illegally trade narcotics.
Currently, the province is managing over 2,200 drug addicts, more than 1,100 people who illegally use drugs, and hundreds of cases of people who have completed rehabilitation. This continues to be a major challenge for ensuring security, order, and social welfare.
Alongside the fight against drug trafficking, Lai Chau is also strengthening state management of security and order, promoting the implementation of Government Decree 06, developing digital citizens, integrating documents into the VNeID application, and building a synchronized population database.
Efforts to recover weapons and explosives have yielded many positive results, with people voluntarily surrendering hundreds of homemade guns and various types of ammunition and gun components.

In the transportation sector, traffic accidents continued to decrease across all three criteria.
The province recorded 19 traffic accidents, resulting in 11 deaths and 14 injuries, all lower than the same period last year. Authorities handled over 6,900 violations, including more than 1,200 cases of drunk driving.
However, the fire situation remains complex, with 5 fires occurring, resulting in 3 deaths, hundreds of millions of dong in damage, and affecting over 23 hectares of forest.
Overall, the results of crime prevention and control efforts in the first six months of 2026 have made a significant contribution to maintaining political stability, ensuring social order and safety, and creating a favorable environment for socio-economic development in Lai Chau province.
Nevertheless, challenges remain as crime becomes increasingly organized, utilizing advanced technology and exploiting cyberspace. This demands even more decisive action from the entire political system, law enforcement agencies, and every citizen in the fight to maintain peace in the border region.
