First shipments of the year

Over the years, the United States, Japan, and the EU have remained major markets, contributing significantly to the structure of the industry and the growth of export activities in the city.

At the beginning of the Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ), the export situation to these markets showed many positive signs.

Ms. Mai Thi Y Nhi, Director of My Phuong Food Co., Ltd. (located in Hoa Khanh ward), said that on the 8th day of the first lunar month (February 24th), the shipment of nearly 700 boxes of coconut cakes to Japan was the company's first export order of the Year of the Horse.

“Along with the container shipment to Japan, our company immediately started producing a batch of 5 containers for export to the Australian market, expected to leave the port in early March 2026. With these favorable beginnings, we expect the company's export turnover in 2026 to increase by 40% compared to 2025,” Ms. Nhi shared.

Previously, on February 23rd, at Chu Lai port, Truong Hai Group (THACO) exported a shipment of nearly 500 containers of goods, including cars, motorcycles, mechanical components, industrial equipment, and agricultural products from its member units and many businesses in Central Vietnam, to various international markets, including the United States and Japan.

According to THACO, in February 2026 alone, the group exported a batch of buses, motorcycles, and components worth nearly $2.1 million.

In 2026, THACO is expected to export millions of semi-trailer products, spare parts, treadmills, industrial equipment components, and hundreds of thousands of tons of agricultural products to major markets around the world .

Reports from many import-export businesses indicate positive signs regarding export orders in the new year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ).

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son, Director of Huong Que Production, Processing, Trading and Import-Export Company Limited (in Hoa Khanh ward), said that right from the first days of the Lunar New Year of the Horse, his company received an order to another EU country, Spain.

“We already have export orders booked until the second quarter of 2026 and are actively seeking to expand into new markets. In 2026, we expect the company's export segment to continue its growth momentum with an increase of 5-10% compared to 2025,” Mr. Son said.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuoc, Director of Ba Loc Abrasive Adhesive Co., Ltd. (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park), since the end of 2025, anticipating a sharp increase in orders in 2026, the company has proactively increased its raw material imports from the beginning of 2026 to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply of materials for production.

The company secured its first export orders for 2026 just before and after the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse). The company is striving to achieve revenue growth starting in the first quarter of 2026.

Raise business standards to maintain a larger market share.

In 2026, Da Nang's industry and trade sector aims for an export turnover increase of 11-12% compared to 2025, making a positive contribution to the city's double-digit economic growth target.

The task of the Ministry of Industry and Trade is not only to expand markets, but also to maintain and sustainably increase market share in major markets.

Given the demands of high growth, the industry and trade sector has identified promoting import and export activities in major markets as a key task.

According to Ms. Do Thi Quynh Tram, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Da Nang's key products are increasingly demonstrating their role and position in the international market, affirming their brand value.

Businesses have made excellent use of the signed free trade agreements (FTAs), expanding into new markets alongside traditional ones, while increasing added value and promoting deep processing, especially for agricultural and aquatic products.

Export product groups continue to play a pivotal role, contributing a large portion to the total export value, such as electronics, machinery, telephones, textiles, footwear, wood, and seafood… not only bringing in significant export value but also reflecting a structural shift towards increased technological content and quality.

This is the foundation for goods produced by businesses in Da Nang to continue to hold their ground in major markets such as the United States, the EU, and Japan – places with increasingly high demands for technical standards, traceability, and social responsibility.

While ministries and agencies, primarily the Ministry of Industry and Trade, continue to refine mechanisms and policies to create a stable and transparent legal framework for foreign trade activities, including further amendments to the Commercial Law and the Law on Foreign Trade Management; reviewing relevant decrees on the origin of goods; and issuing circulars guiding the implementation of new FTAs, in the context of major markets increasing controls on origin, combating fraud, and demanding transparency in the supply chain, mastering the rules of origin (C/O) has become a prerequisite for maintaining trust with demanding markets.

Alongside improving the mechanisms, according to Mr. Nguyen Tien Quang, Director of the Central-Western Highlands branch of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, reality shows that the United States, the EU, Japan, and many other major markets are tightening standards related to carbon emissions, social responsibility, and the sustainability of the supply chain.

A small error in traceability or labeling can have significant consequences for reputation and costs. This necessitates businesses to take a proactive role in export promotion, thoroughly researching the market before engaging in transactions, signing contracts, and exporting goods to major markets.

At the same time, all regulations regarding traceability, origin, food safety, labeling, and packaging must be fully complied with when exporting to that market.

"Promoting exports in 2026 cannot simply stop at increasing the number of forums, trade fairs, or trade delegations; it must be a process that requires businesses to comprehensively raise their standards, from investing in technology, innovating management, green production, and building long-term brands."

2026 will be a test of the depth of import and export promotion efforts. Maintaining large markets is difficult; expanding and establishing a deep foothold is even more challenging. However, if institutions are strengthened, compliance is emphasized, and businesses proactively raise standards, Vietnamese goods have a solid foundation to continue asserting their position in the world's most important markets.

"Currently, we have a Strategic Plan for Import and Export of Goods until 2030, with a vision to 2045, which clearly defines the direction of increasing added value, reducing raw material exports, and prioritizing environmentally friendly products. Each enterprise also needs to position itself within that sustainable development trajectory," Mr. Quang emphasized.
