Currently, changing your Gmail address is nearly impossible or extremely complicated. In a recently updated Hindi-language support document, Google says it will change this, allowing users to choose a new Gmail address without losing data.

A new year is often a time for self-renewal, from learning new skills and improving health to trying a different look. However, some changes that seem simple are actually beyond our reach — for example, changing your Gmail address.
This is a rare opportunity for those with hilarious email addresses from their teenage years—addresses that are misleading, funny, or even misspelled.
You can certainly register a new account and set up mail forwarding from your old address, but there's no truly "clean" way to switch from one Gmail address to another. However, this may soon change.
Your Google account is linked to an email address, and for most of us, that's a Gmail address ending in @gmail.com. Google notes that you can switch to a third-party email address, but this means deleting your current Gmail account.
This feature hasn't been rolled out yet, but Google recently updated its Hindi-language support documentation to describe a new system that allows changing your Gmail address — without losing any data.

Accordingly, Google stated that it will allow users to choose a new Gmail address. The company also noted that this feature will be rolled out gradually and will not be available to everyone initially.
When you choose a new address, your old Gmail address will become an alias. You can log in with both addresses, and Google assures you that you will not lose any messages or data related to the old address.
Unsurprisingly, Google has imposed some significant limitations. You can only change your Gmail address once every 12 months and a maximum of three times throughout your subscription — so think carefully before deciding.
Nevertheless, this is still a big move from Google, and many people will certainly consider "refreshing" their Gmail identity. If you're lucky, you might get to experience the new Gmail address in 2026.
