Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho affirmed that Oc Eo culture is an extremely valuable heritage, a source of pride not only for An Giang but also for Vietnam. Preserving and promoting the value of this heritage is not only a responsibility but also a historical command.
Enhance the value of heritage
The Oc Eo Cultural Relics Management Board pays special attention to promoting foreign affairs and international cooperation in the field of heritage. Cooperation with many international scientific organizations from countries such as Korea, France, India, etc. opens up opportunities to exchange experiences, access advanced conservation technology and conduct deeper research on this mysterious culture.
One of the important milestones in the process of promoting heritage values is the inauguration and operation of the Oc Eo Cultural Exhibition House in 2016. This is a place to preserve and display thousands of valuable artifacts, associated with the activities of managing, collecting, preserving and promoting the value of Oc Eo cultural artifact collections in An Giang province. Currently, the exhibition house is preserving and conserving about 15,000 artifacts, groups of original artifacts, specimens along with 3,006 artifact catalogs and millions of artifact samples excavated and excavated by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences according to the project from 2017 - 2020. In particular, the exhibition house is managing 4 national treasures including: Linh Son Bac Buddha statue head, Cay Tram mound jar tomb, Linh Son Bac Buddha relief and Nandin cow ring.
In addition to domestic exhibitions and displays, international exhibition programs are held to bring Oc Eo cultural artifacts abroad for promotion. From 2019 to 2020, the unit organized two international exhibitions at the Seoul Baekje Museum and the Maritime Cultural Heritage Research Institute in Korea, introducing 12,715 original artifacts of Oc Eo culture, serving tens of thousands of international visitors to visit and learn. This is not only a cultural bridge but also an opportunity to affirm the position of Oc Eo cultural heritage on the world heritage map.
Accelerating the World Heritage Goal
An Giang 's highest goal at present is to successfully build a world heritage profile for the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site. To achieve this goal, the main bidding packages are being urgently deployed. By June 21, 2025, bidding package No. 5 on zoning and marking protection had completed 100% of the items and been accepted, which is an important step in determining the boundaries and protecting the relic site. Bidding package No. 3 on preparing nomination documents and management plans reached 26%, while bidding package No. 4 on communication and promotion reached 10%. Although there have been certain results, the overall progress still needs to be accelerated to meet the deadline.
During the field survey and direct working with the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho gave specific and drastic instructions, including requesting the management board and related departments and branches to reorganize the steering committee's personnel and establish a provincial Executive Board to strengthen direct and consistent direction and management of the task of building a world heritage profile. Comrade Le Trung Ho requested the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board and related units to closely coordinate with contractors, speed up the implementation of the remaining packages, especially package No. 3 (preparing nomination documents and management plans) and package No. 4 (communication and promotion). These are two packages that are decisive in completing the profile and creating the necessary communication effects.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a document requesting the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to continue developing a project to edit, establish scientific records and preserve excavated artifacts and specimens in the period of 2017 - 2020. This is an urgent task to systematize documents and ensure the long-term value of the heritage, serving in-depth research and building a world heritage dossier. The Project Management Board, the Department of Construction coordinated with the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board to urgently deploy the construction of roofs at excavated relic sites to protect artifacts and better serve research and sightseeing.
