- Discarding the notion that one must have a son to "continue the family lineage," many families today who have only daughters still build happy homes, stable finances , and raise well-behaved, academically successful children.
In 2002, after giving birth to their second daughter, Ms. Nong Thi Phong and Mr. Trinh Van Khai, from Man Duong village, Nhan Ly commune, proactively implemented family planning to focus on economic development and caring for their children. Ms. Phong shared: "For me, all children are equally deserving of love and care. My husband and I decided not to have more children but to focus on business and trade. Once our finances are stable, we will have better conditions to raise our children."

Built on a foundation of love, respect, and attentive care, Ms. Phong's two daughters have received a full education; the eldest is a teacher in Chi Lang commune, and the youngest is studying at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
In the small house of Mr. Vi Nhac Hung and Ms. Ngo Thi Bich Thuan in Keo Tao Hamlet, Dong Kinh Ward, the atmosphere is always warm and filled with laughter. Although they have two daughters, for the couple, it is a source of happiness as their children are well-behaved, academically successful, and caring and supportive of their parents. Both husband and wife are teachers, so they always prioritize building a strong family foundation, setting a good example, and supporting their children in their studies and daily lives. As a result, their two daughters are well-behaved and polite; the eldest is studying at the National Academy of Public Administration, and the youngest is in 7th grade.
Mr. Hung shared: "Many people, upon learning that my wife and I have two daughters, advised us to 'try to have more children' to have both a boy and a girl. However, we agreed to only have two children."
Although there are no specific statistics, along with the two families mentioned above, many families in the province are no longer heavily influenced by the idea of having a son to "continue the family lineage." This shift is largely due to the contributions of population control teams, grassroots health workers , and social organizations in promoting family planning, discouraging sex selection of fetuses, and conveying the message "whether girl or boy, only have two children to raise them well."
Ms. Truong Thi Hang, Head of the Population Department of the Department of Health, said: The population work team has been actively raising awareness among couples of childbearing age to eliminate the concept of "preferring sons over daughters," especially in remote areas, and strengthening the dissemination of legal regulations prohibiting sex selection of fetuses. The awareness campaigns also aim to build happy, progressive, equal, and sustainable families, focusing on enhancing the role and status of women and girls in the family.
Along with the population sector, the Provincial Women's Union also actively organizes seminars and thematic talks on the role of women in modern families. The province currently maintains 31 club models implementing the project "Propaganda, education, mobilization, and support for women to participate in resolving some social issues related to women in the period 2017 - 2027"...
It is clear that family happiness does not depend on having a son or a daughter, but is built upon love, respect, and companionship among its members. This foundation opens the door to a future of holistic development for every child in an equal and loving environment.
