Show your patriotism in the right way!

Báo Quốc TếBáo Quốc Tế01/09/2024

As National Day on September 2nd approaches, people everywhere are eagerly and joyfully joining hands to implement and spread the spirit of fervent patriotism.

The trend of "turning every rooftop into a national flag" is spreading throughout provinces and cities from the South to the North, from urban to rural areas, from the lowlands to the highlands, and even to the remote islands of our homeland.

More than just a trend, it is a vivid and sincere expression of patriotism and national pride of the Vietnamese people.

More than just a trend, it symbolizes the strength of national unity, through the simplest, most humble actions.

We cannot help but feel overwhelmed with happiness and pride when we see aerial photographs of many localities, with the magnificent red flag with a yellow star covering the rooftops stretching endlessly into the distance.

Gazing at these seemingly simple yet majestic and beautiful images, our minds are immediately filled with emotion, recalling the famous words of President Ho Chi Minh during his lifetime: "Our people have a fervent love for their country; that is a precious tradition of ours."

However, we also need to pay attention to legal regulations regarding the size, form, image, and management, use, and preservation of the national flag.

Article 13 of the 2013 Constitution clearly stipulates: "The national flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is rectangular, with the width equal to two-thirds of the length, a red background, and a five-pointed yellow star in the center."

We also need to avoid hastily sharing information and images without verifying the source. With the development of technology, many images and videos on social media platforms may have been manipulated or edited for malicious purposes.

Furthermore, sharing and commenting on unverified information, images, and videos can lead to us contributing to the spread of fake news and fabricated stories.

For example, in the case of Mr. Ta Minh Thanh (residing in Hong Hai Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province), despite not fully understanding the nature of the incident, not directly witnessing the event, and not verifying the information, he posted an article on his personal Facebook account with inaccurate information, claiming that the People's Committee of Yet Kieu Ward requested Mr. Tran Duy Nhat to remove the image of the national flag from his private wall.

Upon learning of the incident, the Ha Long City Police summoned and questioned Mr. Ta Minh Thanh. After listening to the Ha Long City Police and the Yet Kieu Ward People's Committee explain the legal regulations regarding the use of the national flag and its image, as well as regulations on the use of the internet and social media, Mr. Thanh became aware of his responsibility in providing information online.

At the same time, he also pledged to strictly abide by the laws and regulations of his place of residence, and to be responsible for posting corrective information to stabilize public opinion.

Clearly, each of us needs to be mindful of expressing patriotism in the right way, with the conscience and responsibility of a true citizen, and respecting the rule of law.

Patriotism must be expressed in the right and wise way to be a crucial resource and a key factor in consolidating and strengthening the great national unity.
