As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, the atmosphere in the flower and ornamental plant growing areas of the province becomes more bustling than ever. From the gardens to the markets, flowers and ornamental plants are carefully tended and transported continuously to ensure they are ready for the Tet market.
This year, locals are producing a wide variety of flowers such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, Dutch chrysanthemums, sunflowers, hanging flowers, yellow apricot blossoms, bougainvillea, and kumquat trees… The Long Chau ward spring flower market continues to be a meeting point, where gardeners bring the colors of spring together, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere for buying and selling in the last days of the year.

The bustling Tet season
Ornamental flowers are an indispensable item during every Lunar New Year celebration. At this time, people are speeding up the care and preparation of abundant supplies, ensuring that the flowers bloom on time to meet market demand.
Along National Highway 53 passing through Long Ho commune, many flower gardens serving the Tet holiday are bustling from early morning until late at night. Flower growers water, prune leaves, and monitor each flower bed to ensure uniform growth and vibrant colors when brought to market. Growing over 20,000 pots of flowers to supply the Tet market, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (Long Ho commune) happily said: “This year, the weather has been favorable, so the flowers are growing well. Production costs have increased by about 30%, so flower prices have also increased slightly. Currently, I have sold over 50% wholesale, and the rest is mainly retail. Flower demand is also improving this year. I hope to have a more prosperous and comfortable Tet holiday this year.”
At another flower garden in An Binh commune, many seasonal workers are busy picking leaves, pruning buds, and tending to rows of marigolds, cockscomb flowers, etc. While watering the flowers, Ms. Vo Thi Nhu said: "We have entered the peak harvesting season. The garden grows many types of flowers such as marigolds, red and yellow cockscomb, chrysanthemums, daisies, and a few sunflowers. The flowers were planted around the 15th day of the 10th lunar month, and have now bloomed and are being chosen by many buyers."

According to Ms. Nhu, in recent years, many customers have come directly to the garden to view and choose flowers, so the care process has to be even more meticulous. “Caring for flowers requires close monitoring of the weather, water levels, fertilizer… If the flowers are beautiful and healthy, customers can choose to buy them right away and display them until after the Lunar New Year. Selling at the garden also results in better prices,” Ms. Nhu happily said.
Also tending to nearly 1,000 potted flowers, Ms. Pham Thi Kieu Le (Phu Quoi commune) shared: “At this time, regular care is essential. We water the plants every day to keep them moist, but we also have to adjust the amount of water appropriately to avoid waterlogging the roots. Usually, we only water once at midday to ensure even growth. This year's flowers are big and beautiful, and customers really like them.”
Bustling spring flower market
Along with the bustling activity in the gardens, the spring flower market in Long Chau ward has become lively as gardeners begin bringing their flowers and ornamental plants to the streets. This year, the flower market is organized on a scale of over 800 stalls, expanding both in space and the number of booths. The highlight of this year's flower market is the ornamental plant area arranged along the Tien River and the inner city roads bordering the canal, creating a unique "on the riverbank, under the canal" atmosphere for buying, selling, and sightseeing, making it convenient for flower care while also creating a spring destination for locals and tourists.
According to observations, by this time, more than 50% of the stalls have been displayed by vendors, mainly chrysanthemums of various types, bougainvillea, bonsai, yellow apricot blossoms, and some Tet decorations and calligraphy. The supply of goods at the flower market is quite abundant, bringing together many types of flowers and ornamental plants from famous growing regions such as Phuoc Dinh yellow apricot blossoms, Cai Mon-Cho Lach ornamental flowers, Sa Dec flower village… contributing to creating a vibrant appearance for the central area of the ward, while also meeting the Tet shopping needs of the people.
Although the peak shopping season hasn't arrived yet, buying and selling activities are already bustling. Many gardeners say that this year they are focusing on medium-sized ornamental plants at mid-range prices, suitable for the spending capacity of most people. Mr. Le Dinh Thanh Long (from Cho Lach commune) said he brought about 300-400 small and medium-sized bonsai trees to the market. In the past few days, he has been making sure to clearly display prices so that customers can easily refer to and choose.
“Many people think bonsai are expensive and are hesitant to ask about prices, but this year there are many reasonably priced products. The prices are clearly displayed so customers can see and buy immediately if it suits their needs, without hesitation. Hopefully, we'll sell all our stock this year to earn extra income for Tet (Lunar New Year) and reinvest for the next season,” Long shared.

For yellow apricot blossom trees, demand hasn't been as strong as for fresh flowers in the early days, but gardeners still expect it to increase when the trees begin to bud. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (Tan Ngai ward) said that this year he brought about 40 apricot blossom trees to the market to gauge the market and has already sold more than 10, a fairly positive sign. The segment of apricot blossom trees priced from 2-3 million VND/tree is attracting many customers. "Currently, the leaves have been removed, and in a few days, when the buds bloom, they will attract customers. At this price, many families can choose to buy an apricot blossom tree to display during Tet," Mr. Hieu said.
Ms. Le Dao Thien Thu (Tan Hanh ward) said that because she lives nearby, she often visits the flower market. She said that this year the market has many beautiful flowers at reasonable prices, so she has chosen to buy a few pairs of flowers to display during Tet.
According to the Long Chau Ward People's Committee, the Spring Flower Market not only meets the demand for buying and selling flowers and ornamental plants but also creates a unique cultural space for Tet (Lunar New Year). Maintaining the annual flower market contributes to creating opportunities for organizations and individuals to display and introduce flowers, ornamental plants, agricultural products, and handicraft products, serving the needs of locals and tourists for sightseeing and shopping. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the 2026 Spring Flower Market, the local authorities have prepared early, planned stalls rationally, ensured security and order, traffic safety, and environmental hygiene; and encouraged traders to publicly display prices so that people can shop with peace of mind.
