Cultivating love for national borders.
"The 'Borderland Lesson' introduces the Vietnamese Border Guard Law, the National Border Law, and the journey of our forefathers in preserving every inch of land and every border marker in our homeland. Each lesson is an opportunity for students to further cultivate their love for the country and their awareness of protecting the sacred sovereignty at the northernmost point of the Fatherland."
With a border stretching 231.74km and 474 border markers, Lang Son is one of the country's key border provinces. To ensure the effectiveness of the "Borderland Lessons," the Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with the Provincial Department of Education and Training, signed agreements and implemented the program throughout the province.
According to Comrade Hoang Quoc Tuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, the sector has determined that education on border sovereignty is not merely a temporary extracurricular activity, but a crucial political task, a "red thread" running throughout the comprehensive education process for students.
Currently, the program is maintained on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis, coinciding with national, provincial, and military anniversaries in border areas, border gates, border guard posts, training and mobile battalions, and schools… The ultimate goal is for each student to grow up with the mindset of being a “living landmark,” contributing to the firm safeguarding of the sacred borders of the Fatherland.
In 2025, the Command of the Border Guard of Lang Son province, in coordination with the Department of Education and Training, organized 59 lessons for 8,279 students and teachers who came to the border region of Lang Son.
In addition to traditional lectures, the "Borderland Lessons" also utilize many modern technologies such as information, images, and videos integrated via QR codes, helping students actively search for content. The combination of knowledge and experience has made each "lesson at the border marker" more relatable and authentic, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere for the students.
Raising awareness of border protection.
Lieutenant Colonel Do Van Phuc, Political Officer of Bao Lam Border Guard Station, shared: “Instead of just lecturing on theory in the auditorium, we want the children to directly hear from the soldiers about their sweat and effort in maintaining peace on the border. The lesson about love for the country will naturally and deeply penetrate the children. In each lesson, the unit provides practical examples of the border protection journey of border guards, local Party committees, authorities, and people, so that the children can clearly see their responsibility in the journey of safeguarding the border.”
With the responsibility of managing and protecting over 21km of border in Quoc Khanh commune, Po Ma Border Guard Station always prioritizes the implementation of the "Borderland Lesson" model. Through practical stories and a relatable, lively teaching style, the officers and soldiers of the station have helped students grasp the basic regulations of border law and understand what to do and what not to do when living and studying in the border area.
In addition, students are introduced to the traditions and duties of the border guard force, and hear stories about the soldiers who patrol and protect the border day and night, helping the people develop the economy and build cultural life in the locality.
“The school hopes that more and more students and teachers will participate in this program. In the future, if students have the opportunity to directly participate in border patrols with the border guards, they will be even more enthusiastic and better understand the sacred value of the nation's borders,” expressed Mr. Pham Van Hung, Principal of Quoc Khanh Secondary School.
Be Anh Truc, an 8th-grade student at Quoc Khanh Junior High School, shared: “Participating in the ‘Borderland Lesson’ was very exciting for me. Thanks to the border guards’ discussions, we learned more about national border sovereignty.”
According to Major Hoang Anh Dung, Political Officer of Po Ma Border Guard Station, the unit develops experiential activities for students to cultivate discipline and order in a military environment, such as instructing them on folding blankets and sheets according to internal regulations, and arranging personal belongings neatly.
The officers and soldiers also organized many interactive activities and games to learn about the border and border guards, creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere.
“Real-life experiences can foster love for one's homeland even in preschool children. After each lesson, teachers at the school guide the children in writing letters and sending cards to border guards, hoping to see them again soon,” shared Ms. Nong Thi Thuyet, Principal of Tri Phuong Preschool.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command of Lang Son province, the simple yet profound and authentic lessons of the "Borderland Lesson" will be a valuable asset, helping children grow up with love for their homeland, deep gratitude, and a sense of responsibility for protecting the Fatherland today and in the future.
From there, the students will develop an awareness of law compliance, build a spirit of solidarity, and be ready to join hands with the border guards to firmly protect national sovereignty and border security.
