Huynh Long celebrates the Lunar New Year with great fanfare.

Every year, as the Lunar New Year approaches, audiences of the Huynh Long Cai Luong Troupe eagerly await the troupe's new play so they can enjoy a truly memorable traditional Cai Luong performance at the beginning of the year.

This year, Huynh Long kicked off the new year with a grand performance of the Cai Luong play "The Emperor's Spring Excursion" at the Hong Lien Theater.

Huynh Long continues to be loved by the audience.

While other theater troupes usually only perform one show during the Tet season, the Huynh Long Troupe boldly plans two shows every year.

This Lunar New Year season, Huynh Long continues to hold the "record" with two performances that were both sold out before showtime.

"The Emperor's Spring Excursion" is a script by the late artist Bach Mai, now staged by People's Artist Huu Quoc with many new elements.

The play tells the story of an emperor in the State of Jin. Grieving over the death of his beloved empress, the emperor neglects the imperial harem, causing anxiety for the empress dowager.

She suggested that the emperor travel south to Jiangnan, both to enjoy the spring scenery and to find a suitable girl among the common people. In Huangmei Village, he was rescued by Bai Die, and from then on, feelings developed between them…

Developing new actors

This year, artist Minh Nhi's stage production is going big by collaborating with Huynh Long Troupe to stage a play based on the Cai Luong script by artists Bach Mai and Bach Long.

The play "Tu Trang Dang Khoa" immediately became a hit during the Lunar New Year season at Truong Hung Minh Theater. Actress Binh Tinh said that during the Lunar New Year season she is busy with many Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) performances, but because she loves Minh Nhi's theater, for the first time, she disregarded her health and dedicated her lunch break during the Lunar New Year to performing " Tu Trang Dang Khoa ."

People jokingly say that this spring, Huynh Long is celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) with Truong Hung Minh's theater group. To "reciprocate," in the Cai Luong play " The Emperor's Spring Excursion," the Truong Hung Minh theater group also "poured over" to participate. This includes artists like Minh Nhi, Bao Bao, and a cast of supporting actors.
