Majin Bu 's social media account X, a fairly reputable source of iPhone leaks, has just posted an image of the iPhone 17 Pro's SIM tray. That shows that this product line still has a version that uses a physical SIM.
In late 2024, The Information reported that Apple plans to remove the physical SIM tray from iPhones in multiple countries this year. The report did not specify which countries would remove the physical SIM tray, but China may be off the list.
In the US, all iPhones from the 14 to the 16 do not have a SIM tray, relying entirely on digital eSIM technology instead. To date, Apple has not released a SIM tray-less iPhone in any other country. However, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air may not have a SIM tray due to its ultra-thin design.

When Apple launches the iPhone 14 in 2022, it touts eSIMs as more secure than physical SIMs because they can't be removed from the iPhone if lost or stolen. Plus, the iPhone can handle up to eight eSIMs at once, eliminating the need to buy, carry, and swap physical SIM cards on the go.
Apple released a guide, along with a list of carriers worldwide that support eSIM. In it, they said that there are currently more than 190 countries and regions that provide eSIM services. In Vietnam, all three major carriers including Mobifone , Viettel and Vinaphone support eSIM.
According to the latest leaked information, Apple will hold an event to launch the iPhone 17 series on September 9. This year, in addition to the versions directly upgraded from the previous generation, with few changes, including iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple will introduce the iPhone 17 Air model with a different design.
