Majin Bu 's X social media account, a fairly reputable source of iPhone leaks, has just posted an image of the iPhone 17 Pro's SIM tray. This suggests that the product line still has a version that uses a physical SIM card.
In late 2024, The Information reported that Apple planned to remove the physical SIM tray from iPhones in several countries this year. The report didn't specify which countries would be removing the physical SIM tray, but China was likely excluded.
In the US, all iPhones from 14 to 16 years old do not have a SIM tray, instead relying entirely on digital eSIM technology. To date, Apple has not released an iPhone without a SIM tray in any other country. However, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air may not have a SIM tray due to its ultra-thin design.

When launching the iPhone 14 in 2022, Apple advertised eSIMs as more secure than physical SIMs because they cannot be removed from an iPhone if lost or stolen. Furthermore, iPhones can manage up to eight eSIMs simultaneously, eliminating the need to buy, carry, and switch physical SIM cards when traveling.
Apple has released a guide including a list of carriers worldwide that support eSIM. In it, they state that more than 190 countries and regions currently offer eSIM services. In Vietnam, all three major carriers – Mobifone , Viettel, and Vinaphone – support eSIM.
According to the latest leaks, Apple will hold its iPhone 17 launch event on September 9th. This year, in addition to the versions that are direct upgrades from the previous generation with few changes, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple will introduce an iPhone 17 Air model with a different design.
