Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its navy and aerospace forces had coordinated a missile and drone attack targeting the US Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait and the US Navy's Fifth Fleet base at Port Salman in Bahrain. The IRGC claimed to have destroyed eight key US military facilities in the operation.
Following the attacks, the Kuwaiti military stated that its air defense system had intercepted the missiles and UAVs, and urged citizens to follow safety guidelines.
In Bahrain, home to the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, air raid sirens have been activated; authorities have advised residents to quickly seek safe shelter. To date, the U.S. has not reported any casualties or significant damage at bases in the region.
Iran's move came just hours after the US military launched new airstrikes targeting Iranian missile depots, drones, and coastal radar stations. According to Al Jazeera (Qatar), the US military attacked Qeshm Island and the cities of Sirik and Bandar-e Lengeh after an Iranian drone struck a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.
On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the new US airstrikes as a "brutal" act, violating the ceasefire agreement and disrespecting commitments. Iran affirmed that it will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any military aggression.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of continuing to violate the ceasefire agreement reached two weeks ago, and warned Washington could expand its military campaign if Iran continues actions the US considers aggressive.
