The will to rise above challenges

Many years ago, Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuy's family experienced a major tragedy. Her husband died in an accident, leaving her with two young children. With the meager salary of a physical education teacher at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School (Tra Duong commune, Bac Tra My district) at the time, her family's economic situation became difficult.

“At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic was ongoing, the teaching of extracurricular subjects was suspended, and I was stressed for months because of my husband's sudden death. But looking at my children, I told myself I had to be strong and move forward,” Ms. Thuy recounted.

From then on, Ms. Thuy threw herself into her work, not allowing herself any free time. She began purchasing local agricultural products and connecting with manufacturing companies to supply raw materials to the factory.

Because her cosmetics factory constantly needed a large supply of aloe vera, Ms. Thuy had to travel to the southern and Central Highlands provinces to purchase it. This business relationship sparked her interest in cosmetics.

A physical education teacher with a tanned complexion, coupled with traveling from place to place to buy agricultural products, suffered serious skin damage, with skin conditions such as melasma and dark spots appearing earlier than expected for her age. She tried dozens of cosmetic products from a partner company and found that the most effective and essential one was sunscreen.

"Sunlight, UV rays, and blue light have a negative impact on the skin. When I use sunscreen, I see that the damage improves very quickly."

"This product, made from aloe vera by my partner company, started receiving compliments from people after I used it for a while. It was this positive change that gave me the confidence to learn more about hosting and become an MC for many local events," said Ms. Thuy.

Create your own product.

Some time later, Thuy's acquaintances and friends kept asking her to buy the sunscreen she was using for them. Based on market demand, she wanted to upgrade her aloe vera-based sunscreen product, adding some essential benefits that every woman needs at a low cost.

Accordingly, she approached the cosmetics company that she supplied with aloe vera raw materials, hoping to create a product line with her own brand and modify the ingredients and enhance the product's effectiveness.

In early 2023, she established Nhu Thuy Aloe Vera Joint Stock Company, producing Nhu Thuy 3-in-1 Aloe Vera Sunscreen with natural aloe vera as its main ingredient. The product moisturizes the skin, keeping it fresh and smooth; provides sun protection against environmental damage; and brightens the complexion. The product has a net weight of 30g, comes in elegant packaging, and is priced at 290,000 VND.

Nhu Thuy Aloe Vera Sunscreen is being sold nationwide through e-commerce channels and is very popular with customers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nha Phuong (Tam Ky City), a regular customer of Thuy, said: “Thuy’s products are like a special remedy for MCs in particular, or women who are frequently exposed to sunlight, including office workers who spend a lot of time in front of computer screens. They effectively protect against the sun while also acting as a makeup base and moisturizing the skin. Because the products are made from natural aloe vera, women feel very reassured.”

With encouragement from the leaders of the Bac Tra My District Youth Union, Ms. Thuy participated in the 2024 Quang Nam Province Startup Talent Search Competition with her aloe vera sunscreen product, Nhu Thuy. As a result, she won second prize for the creativity and practical functionality of her product.

"The product is being manufactured in Hanoi, and we even source the aloe vera raw materials from the Central Highlands and transport them directly to the factory."

"In the future, I plan to invest in a factory and collaborate with local aloe vera growers. This will be a major turning point, creating opportunities for researching other cosmetic products and generating jobs for the people," said Ms. Thuy.
