The Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design (VFCD), initiated by RMIT University Vietnam, aims to create an open and highly interactive platform for individuals and organizations to keep up with the latest trends in the creative field.
The program will encompass a series of in-depth events, including workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, dialogues, and demonstrations to explore the creative potential of technology and related tools, while examining the challenges and opportunities that technology presents to creative industries.
Professor Julia Gaimster, Head of the Communication and Design Department at RMIT Vietnam and Head of the festival organizing committee, said: “This year’s festival highlights Vietnam’s creative power and recognizes the positive impact of human intellect in the new technological era.”
In this year's program, we will explore the theme of 'Intelligence & Technology,' how they interact and influence each other across creative industries, and the potential of combining human thinking, artificial intelligence, and other technological advancements.
She shared: "Technology has always been a driving force for innovation and transformation, but it is also a source of challenges and dilemmas. As we enter a new era of digitalization and automation, we need to ask ourselves: How can we harness the potential of technology and the tools it offers to enhance human creativity and productivity?"
How can we address the risks and uncertainties that technology and related tools may bring to our society and culture?
How can we strike a balance between humans and machines, intellect and matter, art and science ?
These are some of the questions we will be discussing at this festival. We will be showcasing the best examples of technology applications in creative fields.
We will also invite experts and professionals from diverse fields and backgrounds to share their knowledge, insights, and experience on how to use technology and related tools effectively and ethically.”
Michael Croft, Acting Head of the UNESCO office in Hanoi, affirmed: “Vietnam is fortunate to have a rich source of young talent with over 22 million people aged 16 to 30 who are educated and technically proficient.”
They offer the country enormous potential for cultural and creative industries, as young people are the core force of the creative sector with a natural inclination towards both innovation and creativity, taking calculated risks, and especially demonstrating these through entrepreneurship.”

Michael Croft emphasized: “We must continue to ensure that there is always time and space for young people to demonstrate their leadership role in optimizing the impact of the creative economy on economic and social growth. This has remained the main objective of VFCD since its inception.”
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, also stated: “I have complete confidence in and highly appreciate the importance of VFCD as a pioneering creative platform for all individuals, organizations, and communities working in the fields of culture, arts, and creativity in Vietnam, aiming to promote the development of cultural industries.”
Launched in 2019, VFCD has contributed to fostering partnerships and projects between organizations and individuals in Vietnam's cultural and creative fields. VFCD 2023 is organized by RMIT University Vietnam in collaboration with UNESCO, VICAS, and partners in the creative sector, with media sponsorship and organizational advice from Hanoi Grapevine. |
