English teachers wearing police uniforms
Around 7 PM on a weekend, the grounds of the Dien Lac Commune Police Station are filled with the sounds of children. Precisely at 7:30 PM, a free English class begins in a meeting room on the second floor. The class has about 20 students from grades 1 to 5; the instructors are two volunteers, Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh and Lieutenant Tran Hai Duong, who take turns teaching. The classroom is filled with the lively sounds of students and teachers spelling and pronouncing English words.
Regarding this idea, Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh, Deputy Head of Dien Lac Commune Police, said that the commune police are currently supporting three elementary school students in the area who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Two of these students have parents undergoing drug rehabilitation and live with their grandmothers. Neither of them has the means to attend advanced English communication classes. Through monitoring the local situation, the commune police realized that many families lack the resources to provide their children with extra English lessons. From this, the idea of opening free English classes for underprivileged children was born.

Acting on their idea, after receiving approval from their superiors, Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh (who holds a Bachelor's degree in English) and Lieutenant Tran Hai Duong began preparations to open the class in time for the summer. The Youth Union of the commune's police force coordinated with the Provincial Police's Records and Professional Affairs Department to prepare the necessary facilities such as tables, chairs, and gifts; they also consulted the teaching programs of primary school teachers in the area, thereby developing a simple lesson structure consisting of knowledge, games, and songs. To ensure pedagogical expertise, Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh contacted and received the agreement of several volunteers who are currently English teachers in Nha Trang to participate in teaching. All expenses for the class were supported by benefactors of the La Trung Quan Charity Group, led by Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh.
Help children confidently communicate in English.
Lieutenant Tran Hai Duong said that initially, more than 30 parents registered their children for the class through the "Dien Lac Commune Police" fanpage. However, because this was the first trial class and the instructors lacked sufficient teaching skills, the commune police decided to open Course K1 with 20 students to ensure quality and facilitate class management. After one month of implementation, the commune police will evaluate the effectiveness to expand to subsequent classes.
During the classes, the children are introduced to basic knowledge, new vocabulary, and correct pronunciation through the guidance of "teachers in police uniform" and volunteers. Ms. Pham Thi Hoai Cam (a volunteer English teacher) shared: "Through my friend, Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh, I learned that the Dien Lac Commune Police would be opening free English classes for disadvantaged students, so I dedicate two evenings each month to teaching and helping them access English in the easiest way possible. Through the classes, I see that the children are very enthusiastic about learning and participating in English games guided by the teacher."
According to Major Bui Thuan Thao Linh, the class was organized to provide a friendly and healthy environment, helping students become more confident in using English for communication, thereby fostering a greater love for the subject and leading to better academic results. Through this class, the Dien Lac Commune Police hope to cultivate the qualities of a People's Police officer who is "selfless for the nation, dedicated to serving the people" through the simplest and most practical actions.
