Domestic media outlets have reported that HAGL FC is targeting striker Joao Mario, who previously played for Benfica. This player is considered a quality addition to the team's attack.
Diederrick Joel Tagueu Tadjo will be playing for Hanoi FC next season.
Before Mario, HAGL was also reportedly planning to recruit Adisak Kraisorn, currently the top scorer in Thai football.
Not only HAGL, but Hanoi FC also brought in 7 foreign players during their participation in the AFC Champions League. Most notably, two names were Diederrick Joel Tagueu Tadjo (Cameroon national team) and Damien Le Tallec (former Dortmund star).
Although Thanh Hoa is not overly wealthy, they have managed to bring in Paulo Henrique, who once played in the top Brazilian league for Atletico Mineiro, and was a teammate of Ronaldinho when he was just 19 years old.
Meanwhile, TP.HCM, the team that narrowly avoided relegation last season, is also pursuing striker Paul-Georges Ntep. He has played for several Ligue 1 clubs such as Auxerre, Rennes, Saint-Etienne, and also for VfL Wolfsburg in Germany. Notably, Paul-Georges Ntep represented France in 2015 and Cameroon in 2018 and 2019.
With the names mentioned above, it's clear that the foreign player landscape in V-League ahead of the new season isn't as bleak as it has been recently. This is partly due to the fact that the V-League transfer market is now being synchronized with Europe in terms of timing.
After an unsuccessful season, HAGL seems determined to bounce back. Hanoi FC will be competing in continental competitions this season, and with their determination to reclaim the top spot in the V-League, their significant investment is understandable.
Thanh Hoa played well last season, becoming a sensation, and with the addition of talented new players, the team from Thanh Hoa province is even more confident. As for Ho Chi Minh City, they have been "hibernating" for too long and need to wake up.
Of course, a few big names might not be enough for teams to make a professional difference. But at least it shows that many teams are determined to play well in the new season. Therefore, the V-League is more worth looking forward to.
However, transforming good signings into a strong team is not simple, especially given the unique characteristics of the V-League. Therefore, until the ball starts rolling, everything remains a question mark.
