The break for the Vietnamese national team and U23 team to prepare for their matches has inadvertently become invaluable for Hanoi FC. After the first three rounds of the LPBank V-League 1-2025/26, the team owned by Mr. Hien is causing much concern among fans as they have only managed to secure a mere 1 point.
They are currently among the four teams at the bottom of the table, tied on points with HAGL,SHB Da Nang, and Dong A Thanh Hoa. This is one of Hanoi FC's worst starts in the past decade.
In fact, there have been seasons where Hanoi FC started slowly but then accelerated extremely strongly in the later stages. Last season, coach Makoto's team also had an impressive "final sprint" to win the runner-up position.

However, that was a time when Mr. Hien's team had stability in all three lines, with minimal personnel changes and a squad boasting some of the best players in Vietnamese football, capable of turning the tide of a match, such as Nguyen Quang Hai and Doan Van Hau, alongside a strong lineup of foreign players.
But in the last five years, they have become the most unstable team, constantly changing head coaches. The fact that many stars like Quang Hai, Dinh Trong, Van Hau, Viet Anh… chose to leave instead of staying, for whatever reason, shows that Hanoi can no longer retain its best players.
For the past three years, Hanoi FC has relied heavily on Nguyen Van Quyet, but it's undeniable that he's past his prime. Similarly, Hung Dung and Duy Manh are no longer at the peak of their form.
Hanoi FC's most important defensive player, center-back Thanh Chung, had a rather poor performance in the heavy 2-4 defeat against Hanoi Police. Following this match, coach Makoto faced questions about the possibility of being sacked early.
All signs are bad for Hanoi FC, unless Chairman Hien takes action sufficient to reverse the current trend. Otherwise, the championship race will be extremely difficult for Makoto and his players.
