Launching the summer fruit season.
According to information from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), in the first four months of 2026, the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover reached over 2 billion USD, an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2025. Of this, more than 70% of exported fruit and vegetable products were fresh.
This is good news as many key fruit products, especially those with export potential from Dong Nai city, are beginning their summer harvest season.
Fruit exports have increased significantly.
At the Conference on Promoting Exports of Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Products, ensuring export growth targets for 2026, recently held in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, stated that China continues to be Vietnam's largest export market for fruits and vegetables, with a turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for more than 50% of the market share. Simultaneously, other key markets such as South Korea , the United States, Japan, and the Middle East maintain good growth rates of 15-20%.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, building on this growth momentum, the entire fruit and vegetable industry is determined to reach the milestone of $10 billion in fruit and vegetable export turnover by 2026. To achieve this goal, the fruit and vegetable industry needs to address quality issues and put an end to the situation where exported goods contain residues of banned substances exceeding regulations. At the same time, functional agencies need to strictly control the issued planting area codes, strengthen post-inspection and severely punish cases of fraud to protect the reputation of the national brand; and continue to promote negotiations to open markets for potential products such as pineapples, avocados, custard apples, etc.
By the end of 2025, the total area of fruit trees in the city will reach over 94,200 hectares, with a production of over 2 million tons. The main fruit crops include: durian, mango, jackfruit, pomelo, rambutan, etc.
Mr. Le Tuan Hai, Director of Hai Huong Co., Ltd., Bao Vinh Ward, shared: "Our company mainly processes dried jackfruit for the domestic and export markets. In addition, during the summer fruit season, we also export fresh rambutan, primarily to South Korea. Participating in the export market ensures a more stable market for rambutan (which already has a geographical indication), while also generating higher value. The potential of the fresh rambutan export market is still very large."
Expectations for the new harvest season
This year's summer fruit season is later than usual for most fruits such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and avocado. In addition, unfavorable weather conditions have reduced yields for many orchards. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuoc from Dau Giay ward commented: “This year's summer fruits are all late compared to previous years. Mangosteen, in particular, is harvesting about two months later than last year. Furthermore, the adverse weather has reduced the yield of my family's mangosteen orchard by half compared to last year. I hope the fruit will sell at a high price so that farmers can still make a profit despite the reduced yield.”

For fruits with strong export potential, especially durian, farmgate prices are currently fluctuating. However, because the durian harvest in Dong Nai does not coincide with that of the Mekong Delta or Central Highlands provinces, farmers are still hoping for a successful export season with good prices.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Hung, a durian farmer in Nghia Trung commune, said: “My family has about 500 durian trees that are already producing fruit. Some trees are 10 years old, and some are 5 years old. My family has switched to organic durian farming, limiting the use of herbicides and prioritizing the use of organic fertilizers and biological pesticides. As a result, the soil in the orchard is becoming increasingly fertile and loose, and this year's durian yield is expected to be good.” For many years now, durian has remained one of the top crops for high profits, and many farmers hope that this year's harvest will continue to yield high productivity and selling prices.
Mr. Tran Nguyen, representative of the Economic Department of Tan Phu Ward, said: The ward currently has about 1,600 hectares of durian, mainly Thai durian varieties favored by the export market. Of that, the area of durian orchards granted export-oriented planting area codes is about 700 hectares. The locality continues to support farmers in expanding the area granted export-oriented planting area codes to ensure stable output with high economic value. In addition, the locality has key fruit crops such as pomelo and jackfruit, all of which have strong export potential.
