(NLĐO) - The police in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province have initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Duong Huu Tri, the suspect who attacked and killed a riot police officer.
On March 4th, the Investigation Police Department of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Duong Huu Tri (also known as Ty Heo, born in 1987, residing in Ward 7, Vung Tau City). Tri is the suspect who used a knife to attack and kill a riot police officer.
Duong Huu Tri has been charged and is under investigation on three counts: "murder," "destruction of property," and "resisting public officials."

According to the investigating agency, at approximately 7:35 AM on March 3rd, a task force from the Police Station of Ward 7, Vung Tau City, went to the house of Duong Huu Tri (also known as Ty Heo, born in 1987) to invite him to the station for drug testing as per regulations. Tri is an individual under post-rehabilitation management in the locality.
However, Tri refused to comply, chasing and slashing with a knife, tearing the shirt of a security officer from Ward 7, then returning to set fire to the task force's motorbike, before barricading himself inside his house.
Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Investigation Team in charge of the Vung Tau City area assigned forces to coordinate with the Office of the Criminal Investigation Agency, the Drug Crime Investigation Department, the Mobile Police Department, and the Police of Ward 7 to persuade Tri, but he refused to comply, continuing to barricade himself inside the house, cursing and threatening to use weapons to attack the police force. Tri stood on the upper floor and threw boiling water at the police force, causing burns to one police officer from the Ward 7 Police Station.
The Board of Directors, along with officers and soldiers of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, visited to pay their respects to Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat.
In response to the situation, the task force, including Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat (born in 2001), approached to subdue the suspect, but Tri stabbed him once in the chest with a knife.
The task force took Sergeant Nhật to Vũng Tàu Hospital for emergency treatment, but he passed away at approximately 1:30 PM. At the same time, the Criminal Police Department apprehended the suspect at the scene and brought him to the station for questioning.
On the morning of the same day, Colonel Vu Nhu Ha, Director of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, signed a decision to promote Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat (born in 2001), a soldier of the Mobile Police Unit of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, from corporal to sergeant (a rapid promotion), effective from March 3, 2025, who died while on duty.
To encourage and share in the great loss of Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat's family, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Chairman of the Management Board of the Public Security Forces' Solidarity Fund, also signed a decision to provide financial support of 100 million VND to Sergeant Nhat's family.
