I can't believe what it swallowed.

Without surgery, the anaconda would have died from swallowing this whole.

The anaconda, or South American python (genus Eunectes), is one of the largest snakes in the world , reaching lengths of up to 9 meters, comparable to the reticulated python (Python reticulatus), and weighing up to 250 kg.

Because their preferred habitat is swamps and humid, dense forests, it's common for humans to frequently encounter these giant creatures in these areas.

In the Amazon rainforest region of Brazil, a team of workers is constructing a new road to improve transportation. However, the difficult terrain, coupled with the challenge of transporting materials to the site due to a lack of trucks, and the constant dangers of the rainforest, are all contributing to delays in construction.

One day, while the construction crew was using an excavator to clear the road, one of them suddenly spotted a giant python slithering out from the bushes. It was an Anaconda. Unlike any other python, this Anaconda was the biggest they had ever seen!

What is that strange 'tumor'?

Still reeling from the shock of this enormous creature, they quickly noticed something unusual about the python: a massive tumor.

In fact, anacondas are quite shy and avoid humans, so when they see people they usually move quickly to hide. But this python is different. It crawls very slowly. Sometimes it even opens its mouth in defense.

Knowing that road construction in this area would inevitably lead to encounters with forest creatures, one of them realized that the python was in trouble. It might have slithered out to seek help.

Despite warnings from his teammates, a worker approached the python. Strangely, the python seemed to be in too much pain from the tumor to move.

Immediately, the team of workers contacted the local veterinarian. When a veterinarian dissected the animal to find the cause of the tumor, no one could believe what they saw.

Upon arriving at the scene, the veterinarian stated that the python was most likely pregnant and probably preparing to give birth in the middle of the newly dug road. To confirm this suspicion, the veterinarian assigned the workers the dangerous task of moving the python so the veterinarian could examine the tumor.

Later, the doctor decided that the anaconda needed immediate surgery because there was an object stuck at the entrance to its stomach. This object was something the snake had swallowed and could not be broken down by its digestive system.

The doctor temporarily injected the python with a dose of anesthetic and asked the workers to move it to a flatter area.

This wasn't the first time this man had performed a procedure like this, but he was still very worried because the veterinarian wasn't in the clinic but in the middle of the jungle. Anything could happen here.

With utmost precision and care, the veterinarian operated on the python and removed a giant "tumor." Upon closer inspection, everyone was in disbelief. It was a plastic ice chest!

While the doctor was baffled as to why the python had swallowed the object, the workers figured out the problem.

This ice chest is where they put ice to preserve most perishable foods. Because of the difficult and long distances, they stored the meat in this plastic container. However, the hot weather caused the meat to spoil and smell bad.

It's highly likely the anaconda smelled the meat and mistook it for an animal carcass, so it swallowed it whole.

After removing the ice chest, the veterinarian quickly stitched up the snake's incision, hoping it would survive the ordeal. Once the anesthesia wore off, the snake began to stir and slowly slithered toward the jungle.

In an effort to conserve the Anaconda species, the doctor implanted a tiny tracking chip into the snake to ensure its complete survival after the accident.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), there are four species of anacondas in South America that are classified as potentially threatened. This is due to habitat loss in some areas within their range (due to human agriculture leading to the depletion of wetland habitats); and hunting.
