In Vietnam, the journey to improve the quality of life and happiness index of the people is witnessing many positive changes, but also faces numerous challenges.

In this new context, creating and preserving happiness is no longer a personal matter, but has become a common goal for society as a whole.
In 2012, the United Nations declared March 20th as International Happiness Day, following a proposal from Bhutan – a country with a high happiness index based on factors such as health, mental well-being, education , environment, quality of governance, and the quality of life of its people. According to the United Nations, International Happiness Day is an occasion to raise awareness of the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world . The United Nations also noted that happiness stems not only from economic prosperity, but also from acts of care, gratitude, and kindness between people, and that everyone should cherish and spread the happiness they have for a happier and better world. |
In 2026, International Happiness Day will be celebrated in Vietnam with the theme "Happiness for Every Family". With this theme, International Happiness Day conveys a meaningful message to everyone: Love and share, spreading your happiness to everyone in the community.
Thirteen years ago, in 2013, the Prime Minister issued Decision 2589 on December 26, 2013, approving the Project "Organizing activities to celebrate International Happiness Day on March 20th annually" to raise awareness among all levels, sectors, organizations, individuals, families, and the entire society about International Happiness Day, thereby taking concrete and practical actions to build happy families and happy communities for Vietnamese people; strengthening the participation and coordination among all levels, sectors, and strata of the people, and the cooperation and assistance of organizations and individuals inside and outside the country for activities celebrating International Happiness Day.

This is an occasion to remind everyone to inherit and promote the fine traditional values of filial piety of the Vietnamese people; to love and share in order to find for themselves and help those around them, first and foremost their families, to have many moments of true happiness...
International Happiness Day is also a way to spread the value of happiness, a way to bring happiness to every family, contributing to the goal of building prosperous, equal, progressive, happy, and civilized families; and building a happy living, learning, and working environment.
In this context, each happy family is the foundation of a happy society. When all families are happy, a happy society and a happy nation can be built.
