Every Sunday, the multi-generational reading space in Gia Thuong village, Gia Hoa commune (Gia Vien district) bustles with activity as it opens its doors to welcome members, students, and residents to read books and newspapers. This activity has been maintained for over 20 years.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Manh, the founder of the club, shared: “In November 2000, we established the Gia Thuong Village Library with the desire to spread reading culture and improve the cultural and spiritual life of the people in the area. In July 2021, the Library developed into the Gia Thuong Village Multi-Generation Reading Culture Club.”
When it was first established, the club had 9 members, now it has grown to nearly 30, mostly retired officials and students. The book collection includes nearly 2,500 books contributed by members, through donations, or circulated from the Provincial Library, not to mention over 300 newspapers and magazines from major publications such as Ha Nam Newspaper and Ninh Binh Newspaper…
Having dedicated nearly 40 years to education , after retiring, Ms. Tran Thi Xoan joined the multi-generational reading club in Gia Thuong village. Ms. Xoan shared: “Every Sunday, I go to the village’s reading space to read books and newspapers, especially Ninh Binh Newspaper. This is an official source of information, helping us stay updated on current events inside and outside the province. Ninh Binh Newspaper has an easy-to-understand and relatable writing style, and it promptly updates on issues of public interest. Thanks to reading the newspaper, I understand more about the province’s development direction, about exemplary individuals in studying and following Uncle Ho’s teachings, and from there I live a more positive and responsible life.”
Party newspapers and magazines are the primary source of information and official channels for disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, as well as the State's laws and regulations, to all segments of the population. Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, Secretary of the Gia Thuong Village Party Branch, stated: “Reading and following Party newspapers has been a regular practice for many years. By accessing information from Party newspapers and magazines, we enhance our awareness, maintain our stance and ideology, and clearly define our responsibilities in disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations to the people, contributing to shaping public opinion. Reading Party newspapers has also enabled the Party Branch to effectively apply many innovative approaches and lessons learned from other localities to its leadership and guidance in carrying out tasks at the local level. As a result, Gia Thuong village consistently leads in the commune's movements and activities, especially in the new rural development program.”
In 2024, Gia Thuong village was recognized as a model new rural village. Following the Party's guidelines, the villagers donated 3,000 square meters of land and contributed nearly 3,000 man-days of labor to renovate houses, build roads and public works in the village, with a total contribution of over 18 billion VND from the State and the people. The village's appearance has changed significantly, and the lives of the people have improved. Currently, there are no more poor households in the village, and the average per capita income is over 80 million VND per year.
For over 20 years, the multi-generational reading culture club of Gia Hung commune (Gia Vien district) has become a shining example in spreading the practice of reading and following Party newspapers to all segments of the population. With the participation of over 50 members from various generations, including the elderly, retired officials, local officials, students, and youth union members, the club regularly organizes reading sessions and activities to keep people informed about current events, politics, economics, and society, raising their intellectual level and enriching their spiritual lives.
Mr. Dinh Khac Son, head of the Gia Hung Commune Multigenerational Reading Culture Club, shared: “Although it is a voluntary organization, the club has established regulations and operates systematically, openly, and transparently. From its inception, the club has identified reading Party newspapers and magazines, especially Ninh Binh Newspaper, as the central focus of its regular meetings. Members take notes on interesting articles and new news, preserving them for application, research, and sharing within the club. Many articles on politics, economics, society, Party building and rectification, studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, or articles on health and tips... are compiled into a ‘handbook’ for dissemination and research.” Based on the club's proposal, the Gia Hung Commune Party Committee launched the “Newspaperization” movement, allocating a portion of Party membership fees, Youth Union fees, and association fees to purchase newspapers and magazines, especially Party newspapers, providing them free of charge to all village Party branches and departments in the commune.
Comrade Bui Trong Tinh, Vice Chairman of the Gia Hung Commune People's Committee, assessed: "With 22 years of operation, the commune's multi-generational reading culture club is a meaningful model, creating a healthy and meaningful intellectual playground for officials and people, while contributing to the effective implementation of Directive No. 11-CT/TW of the Politburo, actively innovating and improving the capacity for orientation and the effectiveness of propaganda associated with buying, reading, and following Party newspapers and magazines. The club's activities contribute to attracting a large number of officials, Party members, and people to become closer to the press, becoming loyal readers of newspapers."
We consider this a very useful soft communication channel to bring the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations closer to the people. To create favorable conditions for the Club to operate effectively, the local Party committee and government have supported it with meeting venues, introduced official newspapers and documents, and mobilized officials, mass organizations, and the people to cooperate and participate.”
Party newspapers and magazines, including Ninh Binh Newspaper, are becoming increasingly relevant and practical to daily life, serving as an important bridge between the Party and the people. Members of reading culture clubs and readers not only read newspapers to access information and supplement their knowledge, but also proactively provide feedback to the editorial board on content, presentation style, and information delivery methods.
Sincere and practical feedback from the grassroots will help Party newspapers and magazines improve their quality, stay close to the pulse of life, and accurately reflect issues of public concern. This will create a close, two-way relationship between Party newspapers and magazines and the people, working together towards the goal of effectively disseminating information on all aspects of social life, contributing to the development and progress of the homeland.
