Promoting OCOP products in Quang Nam

(QNO) - On the morning of April 5th, the Quang Nam Provincial Farmers' Association, in coordination with Quang Nam Radio and Television Station, organized a studio guest program with the theme "OCOP Products - Spreading and Connecting".

The studio guests included Ms. Le Thi Minh Tam - Chairperson of the Provincial Farmers' Association; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Pham Ngoc Sinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Supporting Innovative Startups; and Ms. Pham Thi Duy My - Director of Duy Oanh Green Agricultural Cooperative, Duy Xuyen District.

Attending the program were representatives from the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Provincial Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and representatives of farmers' association members and OCOP (One Commune One Product) businesses from 17 districts, towns, and cities.

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has been implemented in Quang Nam province since 2018. According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in recent years, all levels, sectors, and localities in Quang Nam have actively participated, making timely and appropriate decisions, and organizing numerous programs to promote and guide the development of OCOP products.

This encourages OCOP businesses to confidently invest in machinery and production lines to improve product quality and design, and boost promotion… thereby contributing to the success of the program and helping Quang Nam's OCOP products reach not only domestically but also internationally .

With the farmers' association playing a "patronizing" role, Ms. Le Thi Minh Tam - President of the Provincial Farmers' Association - said that in recent years, farmers' associations at all levels have always proactively accompanied farmers and OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities.

According to Ms. Tam, in addition to propaganda and mobilization, the association organizes annual fairs to promote OCOP products. From 2019 to the present, the association has organized 5 fairs; with each event, the scale and revenue have increased and received enthusiastic support from OCOP producers.

“The OCOP program has made significant contributions to the economic development of rural and mountainous areas. Farmers have gradually shifted their mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economics. They have learned to get rich from agricultural products, to exploit potential, to connect with and find markets, and to create product stories to spread and promote to consumers,” Ms. Tam said.

Sharing with the studio audience, Mr. Pham Ngoc Sinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Head of the Steering Committee for Supporting Innovative Startups in the province - said that, alongside the OCOP program, Quang Nam has also organized many innovative startup forums over the years. In particular, the development of OCOP products to participate in these forums has always been a priority for farmers in the province.

"As a connector and facilitator of startup ideas from OCOP products, thereby creating opportunities to expand markets for farmers, the Provincial Steering Committee for Innovation and Startup Support has been implementing many forums and platforms for OCOP businesses," Mr. Sinh shared.

To date, all 17 localities in the province have implemented the OCOP program. Over the past 7 years, 479 products from 376 entities have been recognized as OCOP products; including 419 3-star products and 60 4-star products.

On January 17, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) issued a decision approving the results of the evaluation and ranking of products under the national OCOP program for 2024 (phase 3). For the first time, Quang Nam province had two products achieving 5-star OCOP status: Saphraton health supplement (Nam Tra My) and Quy Thu baked rice cakes (Que Son).
