To bring books closer to readers.

This year, the province is organizing a series of activities in response to Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day simultaneously at three locations: Long Chau, Tra Vinh , and An Hoi. The goal is to honor the role and affirm the importance of reading culture in the community, especially for the younger generation.

Besides displaying and exhibiting over 18,000 books of various types from 60 participating units, the Book and Reading Culture Day activities are innovative and creative, including: displaying and exhibiting books and products applying science and technology; a reading culture space - experiencing digital libraries and mobile libraries; STEM and Robotics AI education activities; and workshops on creating digital content…

These approaches show that reading culture is no longer confined to library spaces or traditional bookshelves, but is quickly adapting to rapidly changing tastes with diverse and vibrant methods.

According to Mr. Huynh Duy Thien, Deputy Head of the Technology and Communications Department of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Vinh Long: Audiobooks have been implemented by Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Vinh Long since 2010. Currently, audiobooks are developed combining professional voice narration with AI to reach target groups such as students, and especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly or the visually impaired.

One of the programs that attracts many young people is the thematic activity "Reading Skills Guidance," and "Artificial Intelligence and its Applications in Developing a Reading Culture." The program helps students improve their reading comprehension and develop positive reading habits. At the same time, it guides them towards a correct understanding of the role of artificial intelligence in supporting and promoting a reading culture in the digital age.

Huynh Thuy Tien (11A4 class, Luu Van Liet High School) said: “Attending the event, I felt very happy to receive new sources of knowledge, which gave me an interesting experience. I tried listening to audiobooks and found them very convenient. This format allows me to do many things while listening to books. I think this type of format will become more popular in the future.”

According to Mr. Phan Thanh Tre, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union: In the context of rapid social development, especially the explosion of digital technology, traditional reading habits are facing many challenges. However, it is precisely in this context that the role of reading becomes more important than ever, helping people maintain intellectual depth, independent thinking ability, and cultural identity.

Develop a reading habit.

According to Mr. Phan Thanh Tre, books not only cultivate knowledge but also nurture the soul, shape character, and inspire aspirations for self-improvement in each individual. As President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed: "Diligently reading books and reading many books is very necessary. Reading books allows us to accumulate knowledge and make our intellect ever more advanced." This statement serves as a profound message about the importance of reading and lifelong learning – the foundation for building a modern, civilized learning society.

Recognizing this, over the years, Youth Union officials at all levels in the province have actively implemented many practical activities to build and develop a reading culture among Youth Union members and young people. From maintaining youth book shelves and digital libraries, organizing book introduction competitions and reading festivals... to integrating reading promotion content into political and ideological education activities, all aim to form a habit of reading and lifelong learning among young people.

Ms. Pham Vu Phuong Linh, Head of Department and Director of the National Political Publishing House's Can Tho branch, stated: "Books are not just for reading; they bring value to society. The goal is to create a space where a wide range of readers can access books on political theory and law. Currently, reading takes place in many forms: paper books, e-books, audiobooks, and some books with visual content. The publishing house has also made many changes to adapt to the needs of readers of all ages."

According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Pham Thi My Hanh: Deeply aware of the role and significance of books and reading culture, in recent years, the Party and State of Vietnam have issued many policies and guidelines to develop reading culture in the community. The annual Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day has become an important cultural event, contributing to the widespread dissemination of the value of books, connecting readers, building a learning society, and developing reading culture in the community.

“I hope that all levels, sectors, localities, and units will continue to pay attention to and promote the development of reading culture; increase investment in the library system; and encourage organizations and individuals to participate in the socialization of book activities and the development of reading culture. At the same time, I call on all officials, civil servants, employees, union members, youth, students, and the people to actively respond to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day; maintain the habit of reading books every day; and join hands to build a learning society, rich in knowledge and civilized,” Ms. Pham Thi My Hanh emphasized.
