Paul McCartney's Wandering Ballad

Việt NamViệt Nam26/12/2020

For the legendary singer Paul McCartney, music is his life.

In early December, the nomadic singer Paul McCartney released his new album, which features themes of freedom and love. In a recent interview, he revealed that in his later years, he has lived a secluded life on his farm with his family and spent his days at his studio.

He composed several film scores, and one of them became the opening track for this new album. He said, “Every day, I start recording with my instruments, and it’s fun. The big difference is creating music for personal enjoyment, not making music for work. So, I’m just doing what I enjoy and I don’t plan on putting it all together on an album.”

Paul McCartney, born on June 18, 1942, was an English singer, songwriter, film producer, and record producer, the lead vocalist and bass guitarist of The Beatles. He and John Lennon were considered one of the greatest songwriting duos in history.

More than just a famous rock band, The Beatles became one of the most unique cultural phenomena and icons of the 20th century. The influence of their music transcended mere entertainment, becoming works of art imbued with humanistic and creative values. After the band disbanded in 1970, he pursued a solo career and formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda, and Denny Laine.

McCartney was one of the richest people in Britain, with an estimated net worth of around £450 million in 2010.

Paul McCartney was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. An asteroid, 4148 McCartney discovered in 1983, is named after him. Hey Jude

"Hey Jude" was released in 1968 and written by Paul McCartney. The song was originally titled "Hey Jules" and was intended to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, after his parents' divorce.

Later, "Hey Jude" came to be regarded as an anthem about a lifestyle that emphasizes joy and how to face life's difficulties and hardships. The song encourages us to cherish every moment of our lives, not to hesitate, but to act immediately when opportunities arise.

Furthermore, live proactively; don't wait for anyone, you must take the initiative and act first. "Hey Jude" was awarded the prestigious Grammy Hall of Fame award. After its release, the single sold 8 million copies and is considered one of the greatest songs of all time.

A day in the life

"A Day in the Life" is considered a masterpiece of the Paul-John collaboration. It's the final track on the famous 1967 album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and is regarded as the album's best work. It's the result of a complex harmonic structure, surreal lyrics, and groundbreaking advancements in recording techniques.

In many rankings, this song is even ranked number 1 among The Beatles' greatest songs of all time. The recording process took 34 hours, with the collaboration of The Beatles and over 40 collaborators, including members of the Royal Orchestra and the London City Orchestra.

By chance, John Lennon was sitting at his piano, grabbed a newspaper, and hummed the opening line, "I read the news today, oh, boy," which inspired his friend Paul McCartney to create this song. Paul Grushkin, writing in his book *Rockin' Down the Highway: The Cars and People That Made Rock Roll*, described the song as "one of the most ambitious, influential, and innovative works in the history of contemporary music."

On June 18, 2010, John Lennon's handwritten manuscript of this song was auctioned for $1.2 million. A review on thetoptens.com stated, "This is a masterpiece that will never be created again."

Let it be

"Let It Be" is a timeless masterpiece by Paul McCartney, yet it is often attributed to McCartney-Lennon. In a dream following a stressful period, Paul McCartney met his late mother, Mary, and heard her advice: "It will be all right, just let it be." This was the inspiration for this song, which is considered a hymn.

Sadly, a month after its release as a single, Paul McCartney announced the band's breakup. "Let It Be" reached number 1 on The Fans' Top 10 in Stephen J. Spignesi and Michael Lewis's anthology, The 100 Best Beatles Songs: An Informed Fan's Guide.

If you stumble along the way, fail in the face of challenges and hardships, "Let It Be" will be the best medicine. The song affirms that "life goes on like this," sometimes what awaits us ahead is predetermined, and failure and setbacks are sometimes inevitable.
