The fishing village is sheltered by Mai Nha islet.
The fishing village of Phuoc Dong has only 210 households, most of whom are involved in coastal fishing and diving for seafood. No one remembers exactly when the village got its name. In front of the village is a curved sandy beach, about 1 km long, extending deep into the shore. Opposite the village is Mai Nha islet. For generations, the villagers have said to each other, "When you go out to sea, look towards the island; when you return to the village, remember Mai Nha islet."

According to Mr. Huynh Danh (66 years old), in the past, the area in front of the village was a densely packed stretch of round rocks blocking the way to the shore. "Boats had a very hard time getting in and out, and small boats were easily capsized. Later, the villagers pooled their money, hired trucks to remove the rocks, and rearranged them into a small raft of rocks to the north of the village. Thanks to that, the area in front of the village now has a curved beach like a bow, providing a place for boats to anchor, and for the children to swim every afternoon," Mr. Danh recounted. The sea in front of the village is now calmer, with small boats anchored facing the village, the golden sunlight casting a gentle glow on the curved sandy beach that embraces the village like a tender arm of the sea.

Like many other coastal villages, the people of Phuoc Dong worship Ong Nam Hai, the guardian deity of fishermen. In addition, they also have the custom of worshipping Ba. Legend says that during a fishing trip, they accidentally discovered a female statue washed ashore on the island. The statue, only about 50-60 cm tall, had an unusually beautiful face and a gentle demeanor, like a good omen from the sea. The villagers immediately held a ceremony to bring it back, erected a shrine named Dinh Ba (Thuy Long Than Nu) on Mai Nha islet, with the wish that every fishing trip would be safe, the wind favorable, and that the fishermen would be protected and blessed by the goddess.

Mr. Nguyen Hung Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of O Loan commune, said that the locality is continuing to invest in infrastructure to serve the development of trade, tourism , and services in the commune in general and Phuoc Dong fishing village in particular. At the same time, it encourages people to participate with the locality in developing community tourism in a sustainable way that protects the ecological environment.
Transform yourself so you don't get forgotten.
Unlike other famous coastal areas, Phuoc Dong is known to young people in its own way through viral TikTok videos with millions of views. Footage of sunrises on Mai Nha islet and tranquil fishing villages in the setting sun evokes a rare sense of peace.

The sudden popularity on social media hasn't diminished Phuoc Dong's inherent charm. On the contrary, the village is gradually developing sustainable community-based ecotourism, preserving its ancient village structure and avoiding hasty commercialization.

For many visitors, coming to Phuoc Dong is about "slow living," about living deeply. Slow to listen to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, to meet an old man mending fishing nets on his porch, to see that the life of a fishing village is still deeply rooted in every house, in every flavor of fish sauce.

In recent years, Phuoc Dong fishing village has become a popular destination for tourists to explore and experience.

Mr. Dung also added that, based on available resources and potential, the locality has set a direction for tourism development linked with trade and services, which has been identified as a priority and a key economic sector.
In the coming period, the locality will consider developing tourism in fishing villages in conjunction with the development of marine and island tourism: researching and developing types and products that combine mainland and island tourism, cultural heritage with ecological and natural environments, and experiential tourism with leisure tourism to create richness and diversity for visitors.
