According to Khmer beliefs, the Moon Worship Ceremony is held to thank the moon god for protecting the crops throughout the year, bringing favorable weather and ensuring a bountiful harvest. The ceremony also holds spiritual significance, expressed through the offerings and the remembrance of the moon god's benevolence, which the Khmer people consider the guardian deity of bountiful harvests and prosperity in the new year.
