The 2025 MLS Cup playoffs have determined the top eight teams to advance to the quarterfinals.

After San Diego FC eliminated Portland Timbers, all the favorites in the first round of MLS Cup 2025 (played on a best-of-three format) won, except Charlotte FC.

The quarter-finals of the tournament (regional semi-finals) now feature the season's best teams, taking place after the FIFA international break in November.

Supporters' Shield winners Philadelphia Union easily defeated Chicago Fire and became the only team in the Eastern Conference to advance after just two matches.

Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC are the first two representatives of the Western Conference to qualify for the semi-finals, after defeating FC Dallas and Austin FC respectively in just two matches.

The most notable confrontation is between two MLS stars: Son Heung Min (Los Angeles) and Thomas Muller (Vancouver Whitecaps).

The remaining matches all have to enter the decisive third match. The highlight is the competition between Inter Miami and Nashville SC.

There was no further disaster, as the tournament's biggest spenders cruised to a 4-0 victory. A Lionel Messi double in the first half sent Miami through, despite the suspension of Luis Suárez.

The quarter-finals will be a single-elimination match, with four pairs: Vancouver Whitecaps - Los Angeles, Cincinnati - Inter Miami, Philadelphia Union - New York City and San Diego FC - Minnesota United.
