After San Diego FC eliminated Portland Timbers, all the teams considered strong contenders in the first round of the 2025 MLS Cup (played on a best-of-three format) won their matches, except for Charlotte FC.
The quarter-finals of the tournament (regional semifinals) now bring together the best teams of the season, taking place after the FIFA international break in November.
The Supporters' Shield winners, Philadelphia Union, easily defeated Chicago Fire and became the only team in the Eastern Conference to advance after just two games.
Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC were the first two teams from the Western Conference to qualify for the conference semifinals, after defeating FC Dallas and Austin FC respectively in just two matches.

The most notable clash is between two MLS stars: Son Heung Min (Los Angeles) and Thomas Muller (Vancouver Whitecaps).
The remaining matches all went to a third game. The highlight was the clash between Inter Miami and Nashville SC.
No further disasters occurred, as the team that spent the most in the tournament won overwhelmingly 4-0. Lionel Messi's brace in the first half helped Miami advance, despite Luis Suárez's absence due to suspension.
The quarter-finals will be played as single-elimination matches, consisting of four pairings: Vancouver Whitecaps - Los Angeles, Cincinnati - Inter Miami, Philadelphia Union - New York City, and San Diego FC - Minnesota United.
