The pineapple farming and livestock breeding model implemented by farmers in Van Lang commune has "transformed" barren lands.
Life sprouts and flourishes.
Spring knocks on every door, spreading gentle warmth throughout the ancestral land. Over the past year, despite facing numerous difficulties, from the harshness of natural disasters and climate change to the challenges of plant and animal diseases, Phu Tho's agriculture has strived to overcome them, affirming its strong vitality. Disaster forecasting and warning systems have been improved; disease prevention and control measures have been implemented synchronously and decisively, minimizing damage and allowing people to produce with peace of mind. Thanks to these efforts, the joy of a bountiful harvest still lingers on the faces of the people as the successful winter crop, with its lush green cornfields and vegetable rows, brightens the spring season in their homeland.
The story of My Lung's "Ga Gay" sticky rice (Son Luong commune) – a specialty of the Muong ethnic group – remains a source of pride. With a cultivated area of over 100 hectares across the commune, an average yield of 120-150 kg/sao (approximately 4 tons/ha), an average selling price of 50,000-55,000 VND/kg, and an average revenue of 90 million VND/ha… this agricultural product is not only associated with historical legends but also provides stable and sustainable income for local people. Preserving and developing this precious rice variety clearly demonstrates that traditional values can go hand in hand with high economic efficiency. This is also the province's general direction: by promoting the application of science and technology, restructuring production towards sustainability, and effectively exploiting the potential and strengths of each region, the province is improving people's lives and building a solid foundation for food security.
Throughout the countryside, the atmosphere of preparation for the new planting season is vibrant yet deeply sacred. The sound of tilling machines blends with the laughter and chatter of people, creating a symphony of labor and multiplying hope. Farmers diligently nurture the new seedlings as if cherishing the blessings of heaven and earth. The vibrant green of the young rice seedlings stretching towards the sun, like a silken carpet, promises a bountiful harvest of golden grains for the new year.
Sustainable development from a new mindset
The vitality of the land lies not only in yield but also in innovative thinking. The people of the ancestral land are boldly opening up more effective economic paths. This includes converting inefficient rice fields to high-yield annual crops, introducing perennial crops into cultivation, and even harmoniously combining rice farming and aquaculture, creating a diverse agricultural landscape.

Doan Hung pomelos are in season for Tet (Lunar New Year).
This innovation is clearly demonstrated by the story of Doan Hung pomelo, a local specialty where people have elevated quality and committed to food safety standards to secure large, sustainable contracts. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Oanh (from Chi Dam commune) shared: “During Tet (Lunar New Year), every household needs pomelos to decorate the fruit platter and to offer to guests. Therefore, from planting, caring for, harvesting, and preserving, everything must be done safely. This is also a key factor in building trust with partners, leading to long-term contracts, economic benefits, and stable employment.”
In Van Lang commune, barren hillsides have been transformed by farmers into pineapple plantations combined with large-scale chicken farming, creating a diversified model that minimizes risks and increases income many times over. With a total planted area of over 70 hectares of pineapples, and ongoing expansion, at a density of 50,000 plants per hectare, the expected yield could reach 40-50 tons per hectare. The entire area has been contracted for product consumption with agricultural processing companies. Currently, the contracted price is 5,000-6,000 VND per kilogram, promising significantly higher income compared to other crops. These models not only maximize land resources but also affirm sustainable growth and development from the very soil of the homeland. Along with the budding shoots and blossoming flowers heralding a bountiful harvest, all of this creates strong confidence for a successful new year.
Spring's blessings are a precious gift from nature, bestowed at the beginning of the year, subtly reminding us of the value of growth and development, and our gratitude to the land that has nurtured us. It also represents the harmonious blend of nature and the diligent labor and innovative thinking of the people of Phu Tho . Spring has arrived, bringing with it abundant and fresh sprouts of prosperity. Together, the people of Phu Tho pledge to preserve and cultivate bountiful harvests, ensuring sweeter fruits and flowers in their homeland, paving the way for a new year full of success.
