At that time, residents spotted smoke and flames rising from a fishing boat anchored on the Hau River. Many people used small fire extinguishers to try to put out the fire, but without success. Boat owners in the nearby area quickly moved their vessels away to prevent the fire from spreading.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police force of Nghe An province dispatched two fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to coordinate with local authorities in carrying out firefighting operations.
Because the boats were all made of wood and contained oil, the fuel used for fishing, the fire quickly spread intensely, engulfing the neighboring moored vessels.
By approximately 7:30 AM the same day, the authorities had largely brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further.
The fire caused no casualties, but at least three fishing boats were burned and severely damaged. The extent of property damage is currently being assessed by authorities.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the authorities.
Yesterday, a number of fishing boats caught fire at the Huynh Gian Nam village boat anchorage area in Dam Thi Nai. The fire completely destroyed 12 fishing boats, and damaged the bows of 3 others.
The affected vessels are all offshore fishing boats, measuring 15-17 meters in length and with engines of 700 horsepower or more.
According to the Tuy Phuoc Dong Commune People's Committee, each boat was worth approximately over 700 million VND. The initial estimated total damage from the fire is about 10 billion VND .
Authorities are continuing to examine the scene, investigate and clarify the cause of the incident, and compile a detailed report on the extent of the damage in order to provide assistance to ship owners in accordance with regulations.
