In an interview with RMC Sport on September 15th, PSG's football advisor Luis Campos spoke about Donnarumma's situation: "The club is more important than anyone else. Donnarumma is a special case; we spent time discussing it but couldn't find common ground. He demanded a salary commensurate with PSG's previous policies, while PSG now applies a new policy that you are only paid highly if you deserve it and contribute on the field."
Campos also emphasized that PSG is no longer following the "Galacticos" path they took when they had Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, or Lionel Messi. Instead, coach Luis Enrique is building a more balanced team, where no individual is above the club.
"The real star is the team. The salary policy applies to everyone, without exception. PSG must be protected. Players should only be selected based on performance, not reputation or past," Campos added.
PSG sold Donnarumma to Manchester City for £26 million last summer. Despite playing a major role in PSG's Champions League victory last season, the Italian international unexpectedly left Parc des Princes after only a few months, leaving many questions about the real reasons.
In his Man City debut, Donnarumma kept a clean sheet and helped the team secure a 3-0 victory against Manchester United in the fourth round of the Premier League on September 14th.
