MU refused to sign Ronaldo. |
According to Sky Sports , Ronaldo's current contract at Al Nassr has a release clause worth around £44 million, which can be activated during the summer transfer window. Therefore, Manchester United is constantly mentioned as a potential destination for CR7.
However, Manchester United seem uninterested in this deal. Sky Sports reports that one of the main reasons MU passed on the option of reuniting with CR7 is their long-term squad building strategy under INEOS. The club's leadership is focusing on rejuvenating the squad and investing in players who can contribute for many seasons, rather than short-term signings.
At his current age, Ronaldo is unlikely to fit into the sustainable development plan that the team is pursuing.

Besides age, financial issues are also a major obstacle. Ronaldo's enormous salary in Saudi Arabia far exceeds MU's current wage structure. With the club tightening spending to ensure financial balance, signing a high-earning player like Ronaldo is considered unfeasible.
Furthermore, the controversial way Ronaldo parted ways with MU at the end of 2022 also makes a reunion seem unlikely. Following his shocking interview, his contract with the club was terminated prematurely, ending the Portuguese striker's tumultuous second stint at Old Trafford.
Although some fans still hope to see Ronaldo return in the red shirt, the Manchester United management seems to have closed the door on recruiting the superstar. Instead, the Old Trafford club is looking to the future with a long-term project and a young squad.
