A delegation of doctors from the NGO Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Ministry (GSMDM) went to Tran Hoang Na Primary School, Cai Rang district to examine people. In 10 days, the delegation examined the internal organs for 1.894 people; eye examination and glasses donation to 1.392 people; dental examination and extraction for 342 people; donated 8 wheelchairs, 36 3-legged canes; 21 cases of eye surgery at Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho; 12 hospitalizations were at Can Tho City General Hospital; 2 cases transferred to Can Tho Central General Hospital; 1 case transferred to Children's Hospital in Can Tho City; 1 transfer case to Cho Ray Hospital; 1 case was transferred to Children's Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment. Regarding subclinical, there are 90 cases of MRI, CT, X-ray, and specialized tests. The total cost of the examination is 100.000 USD.
According to Associate Professor Dao Doan Vien, head of the examination team, the funding was mobilized by the delegation and paid for living expenses during the humanitarian examination days in Can Tho. In addition to the cost of this medical examination, when returning to the US, the delegation will continue to mobilize organizations and individuals to support. During the medical examination in Phong Dien district, the delegation heard about the situation of Ms. Tran Thi Ly, 75 years old, staying in My Phuoc hamlet, My Khanh commune. Mrs. Ly is old and weak, her son has severe tuberculosis and cannot work. The delegation supported her for 3 months with accommodation, 1,2 million VND per month. In this phase, the delegation discovered and subsidized 3 difficult situations with the amount of 14 million dong; supporting the children with 8 milk cartons worth 6,5 million VND.
About the chance to come to Can Tho, Doctor Dao Doan Vien said that Riverside city, California state, where he and many members of the delegation lived and worked as a sisterhood with Can Tho city.
