Market heat
After the Lunar New Year of 2026, Northern Vietnam entered a period of characteristic humid weather. Floors "sweat," walls are stained with water, and clothes take days to dry. High humidity not only causes inconvenience in daily life but also poses a risk of mold growth, damage to wooden furniture and electronic equipment, and an increase in respiratory illnesses.
Observations at electronics supermarkets in Minh Xuan ward show a significant increase in the number of customers looking to buy dehumidifiers right from the first weeks of spring. According to surveys, the price of dehumidifiers currently ranges from 4 to 16 million VND, depending on capacity and features.
The most popular segment is the 12-20 liter/day capacity, suitable for areas of 15-30 m2, priced from 4-6.5 million VND. For spaces of 30-60 m2, the 20-35 liter/day models are offered in the range of 7-10 million VND. Larger models with 35-60 liters/day capacity, intended for homes larger than 60 m2, are priced from 13-18 million VND. This clear stratification shows that the market is operating based on actual demand rather than trend-driven purchasing behavior.
This year, the market has seen the participation of many familiar brands such as Electrolux, Sharp, LG, Samsung, Sunhouse, Nagakawa, Kangaroo… creating a vibrant competitive landscape in terms of both price and technology.
At Dien May Xanh Tuyen Quang (No. 184, Quang Trung Street), Mr. Tran Van Nhat, the supermarket manager, said that in the days leading up to the humid season, the number of customers increased two to three times compared to normal days. “People's economic conditions have improved, and they use many modern electrical appliances at home. Humid weather easily causes malfunctions and short circuits. Customers prioritize models that operate quietly, save energy, and have air purifiers. Sales in the first week after Tet increased by about 200% compared to the same period last year,” Mr. Nhat reported.
Notably, this year's market heated up earlier than usual, with purchasing power surging in the first week after Tet. Retailers proactively imported a wide variety of products in terms of capacity and features to avoid a repeat of the shortages that occurred during the unseasonal rain in 2025.
Prepare proactively
No longer a "seasonal purchase," dehumidifiers are gradually becoming essential household appliances in many Northern Vietnamese families. This shift in consumer behavior is reflected in people's willingness to pay more for products that offer multiple functions, durable operation, and health safety.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, owner of Son Thuy Electronics Store (599 Quang Trung Street, Minh Xuan Ward), commented: "This year's growth comes not only from weather factors but also from a new awareness of air quality in enclosed spaces. 'Townhouses and terraced houses are built with tight walls and little natural ventilation. When high humidity persists, controlling the indoor environment becomes crucial. Customers are not only concerned about 'how many liters per day it can extract' but also about the filter, noise level, odor removal capabilities, and clothes drying performance,'" Ms. Thuy said.
Ms. Pham Thi Duyen, from Phan Thiet 11 residential area, shared that her family decided to buy a dehumidifier costing over 8 million VND after years of suffering during each humid season. "I chose one that operates quietly, deodorizes, and filters the air because we have young children at home. I hesitated before, but now I consider it a necessary investment to protect our health and belongings," Ms. Duyen said.
In reality, usage trends have changed. Many families with large homes are choosing models with a capacity of 30-60 liters/day, placing them permanently in the living room, or even running the wastewater drain directly into the bathroom for continuous operation. Dehumidifiers are no longer just portable devices for individual rooms, but have become a solution for controlling humidity throughout the entire house.
According to meteorological recommendations, in recent years, humid weather has tended to arrive earlier and last longer due to the impact of climate change. Outdoor humidity often exceeds 80%. When there is a large temperature difference between inside and outside the house, water vapor easily condenses on floor and wall surfaces. Using a dehumidifier is a reasonable solution, but it is necessary to maintain room humidity at 45-55% to ensure health and avoid excessively drying out the air.
The humid season is a natural phenomenon in Northern Vietnam. However, with increasingly unpredictable weather, the dehumidifier market is no longer purely a seasonal affair. Behind the growth figures lies a shift in consumer thinking: from "temporary dehumidification" to investing in a safe and proactive living environment.
As homes become complete spaces for living, working, and caring for one's well-being, humidity control is no longer just a temporary solution. The humid season may come and go, but the trend of investing in air conditioning equipment is likely to continue growing. For businesses, it's a test of forecasting and supply chain management capabilities. For consumers, it's a choice between impulsive spending and a calculated investment in long-term quality of life.
