The bustling sugarcane season
Across the vast sugarcane fields, the sounds of harvesting machines mingle with the shouts of people bundling and loading sugarcane onto trucks. The atmosphere of bustling work lasts from early morning until late afternoon. After months of tending the crop, it's now time for sugarcane farmers to harvest the fruits of their labor.

Truong Sinh commune currently has over 130 hectares of sugarcane. This is the main crop, providing a stable source of income for hundreds of households. It is estimated that this year's sugarcane yield will average 70 tons/ha, an increase of 10 tons/ha compared to the previous season; the total production for the commune is estimated at approximately 18,200 tons. Ms. Do Thi Thuy Van's family in Dao Tien village, who owns more than 2 hectares of sugarcane, shared: "This year the weather has been favorable, the sugarcane has grown evenly, has high sugar content, and the purchase price is stable, so the farmers are happy." With the purchase price according to the contract of Son Duong Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, after deducting costs, many sugarcane farmers are earning profits ranging from 40 to 65 million VND/ha.
The sugarcane harvest not only provides income for farmers but also creates seasonal jobs for hundreds of local laborers. Ms. Tran Thi Thao, from Dao Tien village, Truong Sinh commune, said: “During peak days, each harvesting team has 10-15 people, working continuously to meet the deadline for delivering sugarcane to the factory.” A notable aspect of this year's sugarcane harvest is the close cooperation between farmers, the government, and the sugar factory. From the beginning of the season, sugarcane growers signed contracts with the factory, receiving technical guidance and agreeing on harvesting and transportation schedules.
Trucks loaded with sugarcane lined up, leaving the fields and heading straight to the factory, minimizing congestion and price manipulation. Mr. Vuong Quoc Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Sinh commune, stated: "The commune government pays close attention to the sugarcane harvest, supervising the planned harvesting to reduce losses and intermediary costs, while simultaneously improving efficiency for both growers and processing businesses. Because collaboration is the key to sustainable sugarcane development."
Economic pillar
As the year draws to a close, Son Duong Sugar Factory is urgently completing preparations for the new production season in 2026. From line maintenance and personnel allocation to coordination with local authorities in the raw material areas, all necessary conditions are being proactively implemented to ensure a safe and efficient crushing season. Since the beginning of the fourth quarter, the factory has reviewed and upgraded its equipment systems to ensure stable and continuous operation throughout the crushing season.

Mr. Nguy Nhu Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of Son Duong Sugar Corporation, affirmed: In preparation for the 2025-2026 crop year, the company has proactively coordinated with communes to implement policies supporting the development of raw material areas. The production plan for the 2026 crushing season is expected to begin on December 25, 2025. The total harvested area for the crop year is approximately 2,500 hectares with an estimated yield of 60 tons/ha. In addition, the company is focusing on developing and restructuring new sugarcane varieties with high yield and good quality suitable to the ecological conditions of the raw material area, such as KK3, LK9211, Roc22... The estimated production is 150,000 tons of raw sugarcane, equivalent to more than 13,700 tons of finished sugar.
The company has also signed sugarcane transportation contracts with 180 contractors to transport 2,000-2,200 tons of sugarcane per day, sufficient for production and processing; working with vehicle owners, arranging 20 machines to load and unload sugarcane promptly for farmers, meeting production and processing requirements. Given the current state of deteriorated internal field roads, especially in sugarcane growing areas, the company is coordinating with the People's Committees of communes and villages in the raw material area to carry out repairs to serve transportation needs.
Many households have achieved stable livelihoods thanks to sugarcane cultivation. Mr. Vu Van Thuc's family in Trai Mit village has 1.2 hectares of sugarcane, with large, tall plants promising a bountiful harvest. "This variety was supplied by the company," Mrs. Thuc proudly stated. "This is the highest-yielding sugarcane variety I've ever grown. My family is fully affiliated with the company. They provide the seeds and technical support; we just focus on caring for the crop. The best part is we don't have to worry about sales. Prices are stable, unlike the volatile prices of corn or cassava." Mrs. Thuc quickly calculated the economic benefits: "This 1.2 hectares will yield about 110-120 tons per year. With the current sugarcane price (13,000 VND/kg), my family earns over 100 million VND. After deducting all costs for fertilizer, land preparation, etc., we still make a profit of over 80 million VND. Stable income and a good education for our children are all thanks to sugarcane."
In Trai Mit village, out of over 80 households, 90% are involved in sugarcane farming in partnership with the company. Thanks to sugarcane cultivation, 70% of the villagers have a stable income, allowing them to build spacious houses and acquire modern conveniences. Sugarcane has truly become the "main economic activity," restoring the true sweetness to this land.
Besides its economic value, sugarcane plays a crucial role in the agricultural restructuring of Truong Sinh commune and the entire region. Local authorities in the region have identified sugarcane as a crop suitable for the soil, easily mechanized, and with a stable market. Mr. Vuong Quoc Anh, Vice Chairman of Truong Sinh commune, said: "In the coming time, the commune will continue to encourage people to expand sugarcane cultivation in a concentrated manner, apply new varieties, increase mechanization in harvesting, and gradually form a stable sugarcane raw material area, linking production with processing."
This year's sugarcane harvest is beginning with trucks laden with sweet sugarcane, and with the smiles of farmers as their hard work is rewarded. From the sugarcane fields to the factory, this sweet flow continues to nurture hope for a sustainable and efficient agricultural sector in Truong Sinh.
