The Northern Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Center forecasts that, due to the influence of a weakening low-pressure trough combined with upper-level wind convergence, Hanoi will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms on the night of June 27th and the morning of June 28th. Rainfall will generally be 10-20mm, with some areas receiving over 30mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Nighttime and early morning temperatures will generally range from 26-29°C. On the afternoon of June 28th, the city will see reduced cloud cover, sunny weather, and a maximum temperature of 33-35°C.
On the night of June 28th and the day of June 29th, Hanoi will continue to experience showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening; sunny during the day. The city center will have a maximum temperature of 34-36 degrees Celsius; the northern, southern, and western areas will generally have temperatures of 33-35 degrees Celsius. From June 30th to July 2nd, the low-pressure system in the west is expected to develop again, bringing sunny days to Hanoi, with some areas experiencing hot weather; scattered rain is expected at night.
Notably, from the night of June 28th to the morning of June 30th, the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam are likely to experience a period of moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 50-120mm, and some places exceeding 250mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rainfall, exceeding 100mm in 3 hours.
Previously, on the night of June 27th and throughout June 28th, the area experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall generally ranging from 10-30mm, and some places receiving over 60mm; the rain was concentrated in the late afternoon, evening, and morning.
Heavy rains are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, and industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams; and landslides on slopes.
To proactively respond to heavy rain, floods, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, and hailstorms, on the afternoon of June 27, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense requested the northern mountainous provinces to closely monitor warning and forecast bulletins; and to promptly inform local authorities and people to proactively take preventive measures.
The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense also requested localities to mobilize rapid response forces to inspect and clear waterways in areas where blockages occur; proactively evacuate people in areas at high risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides to safe locations; and have on-site forces ready to promptly assist people in overcoming the consequences if necessary.
Local authorities need to strengthen communication, especially through grassroots information systems, to update weather information and disseminate skills for responding to heavy rain, floods, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, and hailstorms, helping people proactively prevent and minimize damage.
