Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited Moscow for two days, February 26-27 , to consult on bilateral relations and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference .

Reuters quoted a Chinese diplomatic official as saying that China and Russia should play "a better role, as an anchor of stability, in the changing times of the century."

He affirmed that China is ready to continue strengthening strategic coordination between the two sides in multilateral international activities.

In Moscow, Sun Weidong met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Interfax, citing a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that at the meeting, Vice Minister Sun Weidong affirmed: “ Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era has developed healthily, stably, and profoundly. Bilateral relations are at their best level in history .”

He urged both sides to seize the opportunity of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year as a "new starting point" to "further strengthen mutual trust, expand comprehensive strategic cooperation, and enhance practical interactions in various fields."

Officials from both sides also exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Ukraine.

Mr. Ton affirmed the important role of the SCO in Asia-Pacific affairs and in ensuring the security, stability, and overall development of the region.
