According to Benzinga , a reputable American financial news site, the winner of the bid to acquire Manchester United is likely to be revealed by the end of today, June 27th.
This source also added information that excited Manchester United fans: Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim could be their new owner.
The Glazer family put MU up for sale in November 2022, but the prolonged process has left Red Devils fans impatient, with plans to protest against the American owners.
In reality, the bid to acquire MU was a race between Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim. At one point, the British billionaire was reportedly close to winning because of his offer to allow the Glazer family to retain a small stake.
However, Qatari media recently claimed that billionaire Sheikh Jassim is about to become the new owner of Manchester United, following his fifth offer earlier this month.
According to the latest news, the final winner could be decided today. An M&A advisor told Benzinga : "The outcome (of the MU sale) from a bidder's perspective will be known when the club reports its financial results on June 27th."
The source added: “The likely winner in the bid to acquire MU is Sheikh Kassim bin Harnad Al Thani of Qatar, who reportedly submitted his final bid earlier this month.”
After making their fifth offer to MU, the Qatari billionaire's side reportedly included a clear message: this was their final bid and they would withdraw from the competition if the Glazers still did not make a clear move.
The sale of Manchester United has been delayed, according to Philip Brown of BTP, due to a split within the Glazer family. Avram and Joel Glazer want to hand over the club to Sir Jim, while their siblings agree that Sheikh Jassim is the right person to do so.
Therefore, despite rumors that the new owner of MU could be revealed today, Benzema still quoted a source saying: "I honestly don't know what's going on in this sale of MU."
Even if a new owner for MU is confirmed today, the takeover of the club will still require 8-10 weeks to complete the paperwork, meaning it will take until the start of the new season.
Manchester United have yet to bring any new players to Old Trafford, causing manager Erik ten Hag considerable headaches.
