"Because my family was struggling financially, I had to live independently from a young age. Those difficulties actually motivated me to strive for success," artist Vo Tan Phat expressed.

- Artist VO TAN PHAT : As of 2024, I have been working in this profession for 7 years. Through many challenges and continuous effort, I have gained recognition from the audience and my colleagues. But the further I go, the more I realize how small I am. I always set new goals for myself and strive to improve every day.
Recently, I've expanded my skills in the field of MCing after winning the "Golden Swallow Artist of the Year 2020" award organized by HTV. The role of MC has honed my improvisational skills and quick problem-solving abilities, providing valuable experience to enhance my acting roles. Acting is not a simple profession; you need certain skills and qualities to pursue it successfully. To make an impact, actors must put in the effort and overcome difficulties.
Almost every field Vo Tan Phat has had a smooth start in. Do you think you're just "lucky"?
- No one succeeds by walking only on a path paved with roses; everything has its price. To achieve success, I've put in a lot of effort, reading and contemplating each role. Even for my work as an MC, I had to spend a lot of time researching to transform words into emotion. Luck, if any, is only a part of it; the rest is the effort to create my own unique style.
Are you afraid of facing failure?
- I believe that failure is not simply an unexpected outcome, but also a process filled with negative emotions that can lead to a loss of self-confidence. Actors are particularly susceptible to this feeling, and it can also indicate a lack of knowledge and life experience. Failure is a valuable lesson, an opportunity for actors to self-reflect and learn from it for their professional journey.
What is your biggest concern regarding theater for young people and children today ?
- Recently, thanks to the positive impact of social media platforms, many young audiences have been drawn to theater. This also puts pressure on theaters to constantly improve their professional quality to meet audience demands. However, there are still not many young actors capable of continuing the legacy of veteran theater artists in Ho Chi Minh City. The theater sector for children's audiences also has many limitations.

Of all the plays performed so far, which role do you enjoy the most? Why ?
- My favorite role was Le Hong Phong in the play "The Song of the Motherland." Playing this role was very stressful because I had to concentrate on every line. However, thanks to that, I was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2022 National Theatre Festival. I love and will always remember this role because it required thorough preparation in terms of knowledge and many other special skills to embody a real historical figure.
What obstacles and difficulties do you remember most from your professional journey over the past 7 years ?
- My most memorable and impressive role to date is that of Tam Quy in the film "Tet in the Village of Hell." Thanks to this role, I've become more well-known to the audience. Our crew spent nearly two months filming in the picturesque mountainous region of Ha Giang . The work intensity was very high, but it gave me a lot of life experience and memorable moments with my colleagues in the crew.
Which teacher left the biggest impression on you during your journey into the arts ?
- Besides my teachers at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film, Mr. Thanh Hoi and Ms. Ai Nhu (from Hoang Thai Thanh Theatre) are two people who have helped me gain a lot of knowledge and experience in acting. I am always conscious of turning my gratitude into motivation to do well in new roles and achieve success for myself. I think that is the most meaningful gift I can give to my teachers.
To ensure the role accurately reflects the character's life and aspirations in the play "The Rose Pinned to the Lapel," what message do you hope to convey to the audience through this performance?
- In this play, Hieu, due to momentary impulses, causes pain to his mother. "The Rose Pinned to the Lapel" is a re-staging of the play of the same name by the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe. Hoang Thai Thanh's production has undergone many changes to suit the present time. I am very happy to play the role of Hieu. "The Rose Pinned to the Lapel" is a play that is always warmly received by the audience every time it is performed. The play is based on the short story "The Rose Pinned to the Lapel" by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. The ritual of pinning a red rose while one's parents are still alive carries special meaning, not only for Buddhists but also for everyone. Children must always remember their parents who gave birth to and raised them. This is also a moral tradition of the Vietnamese people.

Vo Tan Phat is the new host of the show "Cafe is just an excuse" on HTV7. This is his fifth television program as an MC. Between being a comedian and an MC, which title would he prefer the audience to call him?
- I'm an actress, and the art of acting has always burned brightly within me. The program "Cafe is just an excuse" has a youthful vibe, with guests being young artists who share stories that interest young people. The two professions I'm pursuing complement each other. But I prefer to be called an artist.
In fact, acting greatly supports an MC's improvisational skills on stage. Conversely, being an MC helps a comedian speak more concisely, sharply, and develop better language skills. Both professions require a lot of reading, listening, and observing from life. For me, embodying a character with a life different from my own is a very interesting experience. Therefore, I always invest thoroughly in new roles.
Vo Tan Phat was born in 1995 in Tra On district, Vinh Long province, into a family with no artistic background. He received formal training at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film and rose to prominence from the game show "Laughing Through Vietnam" after winning the championship. After 7 years in the arts, Vo Tan Phat is considered one of the talented young actors, attracting the attention of many directors.
Currently, Vo Tan Phat is appearing on various programs on both HTV and VTV such as "The Luck Odds", "Our Family Is the Best", "Culinary Arena", "Master of Words"... and will soon be appearing on "Going Here and There".
Some believe that Vo Tan Phat is on the list of the next generation to follow in the footsteps of multi-talented MCs like Tran Thanh, Truong Giang, and Ngo Kien Huy.
