"The South African ambassador to the United States is no longer welcome in our great country," U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on social media on March 14. According to Rubio, Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool is a politician who incites racial issues, hates America, and hates President Trump.

Rubio cited an article on the conservative news site Breitbart , which claimed that Rasool had made "offensive" remarks about President Donald Trump regarding race.

"We had nothing to discuss with him and therefore he was considered unwelcome," Rubio wrote. The South African ambassador's reaction is unclear. Rasool presented his credentials to the White House to begin his term as ambassador on January 13, while Joe Biden was still president.

According to AFP, expelling an ambassador is a rare occurrence in the United States. This is the latest development in escalating tensions between the US and South Africa.

In February, President Trump froze U.S. aid to South Africa, arguing that the country had a law allowing the seizure of land from white farmers and because of South Africa's lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel over the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Last week, Mr. Trump said that South African farmers are welcome in America and criticized the Pretoria authorities for seizing land from white people.

"Any farmer (along with their family) from South Africa, who is looking to leave the country for safety reasons, will be invited into the United States with a fast track to citizenship," Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Land ownership is a sensitive issue in South Africa, and the government is under pressure to reform. At a conference last month, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said he had a great phone call with President Trump after the US leader took office in January. However, the relationship has since appeared to have "gone a little off track," according to Ramaphosa.
