U.S. and Iranian officials said on June 14 that they had agreed on a framework to end the war, lift the U.S. blockade on Iran, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for global oil and gas supplies.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump also announced that the agreement with Iran had been finalized. The announcement came shortly after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the country acting as a mediator, confirmed that the two sides had reached an agreement.
The memorandum is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19th. However, the detailed terms have not yet been released. According to Mr. Sharif, the agreement requires the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council announced that military operations would end on the night of June 15. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the two sides would negotiate a more comprehensive agreement during the 60-day ceasefire, including easing sanctions against Tehran.

Iran's nuclear program will also be included in the upcoming negotiations. Israel has not responded to this announcement and has stated that it is not involved in the negotiations between the US and Iran.
President Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz is expected to reopen on June 19, and he ordered an end to the blockade of Iranian ports. Oil prices fell following the news, with Brent crude losing 4%, and US West Texas Intermediate crude dropping more than 4.6%.
Thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, have been killed since U.S. and Israeli forces began their attack on Iran on February 28. Iran subsequently retaliated against Israel and Gulf states with U.S. bases, and effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the U.S. responded by blockading Iranian ports.
Britain, Germany, France, and Italy have welcomed positive signals regarding the US-Iran agreement, and have indicated their willingness to lift sanctions if Iran takes clear and verifiable steps to curb its nuclear program.
