At the meeting, representatives of relevant units reviewed, commented and adjusted details of the contents in the draft scenario for the epidemic response drill.
Accordingly, the exercise is expected to take place at three locations: Da Nang International Airport, Son Tra Regional Medical Center and in the residential community.
The hypothetical scenario is built in a series of continuous situations, from the steps of monitoring - detecting - isolating passengers suspected of being infected with Ebola virus entering the country by air; to receiving, screening, diagnosing, treating and preventing cross-infection at medical examination and treatment facilities.
In parallel, the medical force will investigate, verify, isolate and handle dangerous infectious disease outbreaks in the community, ensuring close adherence to reality and in accordance with the current epidemiological situation. The delegates discussed in depth the organizational plan, technical requirements, participating human resources and coordination procedures between units.
Many proposals were made to clarify the role of each force in each stage of the exercise, from receiving information, mobilizing the warning system to deploying rapid response measures at the scene.
The meeting agreed on the entire scenario content and assigned specific tasks to the forces before entering the official exercise. The exercise not only helps improve the command, operation and coordination capacity of medical units, but also increases the response capacity of related sectors to dangerous, emerging or potentially re-emerging infectious diseases.
This is also an opportunity to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of plans and professional processes; at the same time, identify limitations and shortcomings to promptly adjust and perfect the city's epidemic prevention and control plan.
Proactive preparation and improvement of response capacity are expected to contribute to minimizing health, economic and social damage when an epidemic occurs, further strengthening Da Nang's medical surveillance system.
