Improving the effectiveness of epidemic prevention and control.

DNO - The Da Nang City Center for Disease Control (CDC) recently held a meeting to finalize the scenario and assign tasks for a disease surveillance drill, within the framework of the project "Enhancing the capacity for infectious disease surveillance in Da Nang City" under the cooperation agreement between ActionAid Vietnam and the Da Nang CDC.

At the meeting, representatives from relevant units reviewed, commented on, and made detailed adjustments to the contents of the draft scenario for responding to a disease outbreak.

Accordingly, the drill is scheduled to take place at three locations: Da Nang International Airport, Son Tra Regional Medical Center, and in a local community.

The hypothetical scenario is constructed as a sequence of interconnected situations, from monitoring, detecting, and isolating passengers suspected of having Ebola virus disease upon arrival via air travel; to receiving, screening, diagnosing, treating, and preventing cross-infection at healthcare facilities.

Simultaneously, the health forces will conduct investigations, verifications, containment, and handling of outbreaks of dangerous infectious diseases in the community, ensuring that the approach is closely aligned with reality and appropriate to the current epidemiological situation. Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on organizational plans, technical requirements, personnel involved, and coordination procedures between units.

Several proposals were put forward to clarify the role of each force in each phase of the exercise, from information reception and mobilization of the warning system to the deployment of rapid response measures on the ground.

The meeting finalized the entire scenario and assigned specific tasks to the participating forces before the official exercise. The exercise not only helps improve the leadership, management, and coordination capabilities of healthcare units, but also enhances the responsiveness of related sectors to dangerous, emerging, or potentially resurgent infectious diseases.

This is also an opportunity to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of professional plans and procedures; and to identify limitations and shortcomings in order to promptly adjust and improve the city's epidemic prevention and control plan.

Proactive preparation and enhanced response capabilities are expected to contribute to minimizing health, economic , and social damage when an epidemic occurs, and further strengthen Da Nang's health surveillance system.
